EastEnders reveals outcome of Sonia Fowler’s trial – but there’s a dark twist

Will Sonia realise the truth of what's going on?

EASTENDERS has aired the verdict of Sonia Fowler’s trial – but there’s a dark twist.

Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) was falsely charged for Debbie Colwell’s (Jenny Meier) m.u.r.d.e.r – unaware her fiancé Reiss (Jonny Freeman) is the actual culprit.

Cash-strapped Reiss suffocated comatose Debbie, his own wife, in a bid to claim her life insurance.

Meanwhile, Sonia was found not guilty in court, much to the delight of her friends and family.

Less pleased was Debbie’s mother Brenda (Nichola McAuliffe), who shouted at the jurors.

Not everyone is unaware about the extent of Reiss’ actions.

Sonia’s half-sister Bianca (Patsy Palmer) discovered the truth late last year.

Since then, the accountant has kept Bianca locked up in a storage container – to keep her quiet.

Reiss promised to set Bianca free after she recorded a fake m.u.r.d.e.r confession.

His declaration of the new evidence ultimately wouldn’t halt to the trial.

He instead handed the video to a juror, in the hope it would secure Sonia’s freedom.

After the trial, Sonia joined friends and family in The Queen Vic for celebratory drinks.

When Bianca was brought up, Reiss became uncomfortable – and again when Sonia asked to see the confession.

Claiming he no longer had a copy of it, Reiss persuaded Sonia to come home for a quiet night with him.

Things took a sinister turn when he shared Sonia’s news with Bianca.

At first, the soap legend was delighted to hear about her sister’s freedom – knowing she wasn’t guilty.

Unfortunately for Bianca, Reiss revealed doubts over whether he could trust her not going to the police.

Adding she had never been good for Sonia, he decided to leave his would-be sister-in-law locked up.

Bianca sobbed and later, privately, shared fears of dying alone in the container.

Reiss later urged Sonia to believe Bianca’s confession wasn’t a lie – and that she was truly responsible.

Earlier, he had even condemned other Walford residents for questioning its legitimacy.

Sonia responded by saying if it were true, she still needed to see her sister.

Will she finally realise Reiss’ manipulation throughout this experience?

EastEnders airs on BBC One and iPlayer.
