EastEnders has revealed the cast’s tearful goodbye to Navin Chowdhry as his character Nish Panesar exited the show.
The soap aired a dramatic start to the new year during Eve Unwin and Suki Panesar’s wedding. After tying the knot, the newlyweds slipped off to the honeymoon suite, where a vengeful Nish was waiting to strike.
Eve unknowingly drank from a glass that Nish had poisoned. She fell to the floor unconscious before the villain appeared from the shadows. Nish revealed his plan for him and Suki to die together, and he dragged his ex-wife onto the balcony.
In a fit of rage, Ravi pushed his dad over the railing, but Nish held onto Suki’s clothes and pulled her down with him. Fortunately, Suki managed to survive the fall and Nish died instantly, ending his reign of terror.
Though the residents of Walford will be glad to see the back of Nish, the cast of Eastenders bid an emotional farewell to their co-star in a behind-the-scenes video.
“Losing Navin, that’s been very emotional and we’re slowly getting closer to that day which is really sad,” Juhaim Rasul Choudhury (who plays Nugget Gulati) said. “Crying… My eyes, they’re in pain, getting red,” he added.
Meanwhile, since they filmed their final scene together, Balvinder Sopal (who plays Suki) also shared a sweet tribute to her friend. “It’s been an amazing, incredible, incredible two years?” she said, querying the duration.
“Two years, three months. I’ve counted every day,” Chowdhry replied, embracing Sopal. “When he could leave me,” she added jokingly.
As their final scene together wrapped, the duo shared a teary hug. “We don’t want him to go,” Sopal told the camera.
Elsewhere in the video, Chowdhry filmed his last scene on the show as Nish was finally declared dead.
“It feels very surreal. It feels magical. There’s a lot of emotion attached to this. Genuinely lost for words, but I’d just like to say thank you to everybody,” the actor said. “After two and a bit years, final shot now. It’s been an absolute joy, an absolute pleasure.”
