EastEnders star teases double return for Walford legends amid ‘new characters’
EastEnders favourite Scott Maslen, who plays Jack Branning on the BBC soap, discussed all the new characters the show has seen who are linked to its history as he teased returns
One EastEnders star has addressed the rumours surrounding a huge return looming on the BBC soap, amid rumours of two comebacks being in the pipeline.
Actor Scott Maslen even teased a further comeback could be on the way for the Branning family, amid long-time calls for certain characters to head back to Walford. Jack Branning actor Scott certainly teased it was possible, as he addressed the show constantly bringing in new relatives of past characters, and people linked to the show’s history.
Just weeks ago it was reported that Jack’s brother Max Branning would finally head back to Walford, with actor Jake Wood reprising his role after his exit in 2021. The show has yet to confirm the news, while Scott certainly teased it may be on the cards.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Scott said “it may well be” that Max will come back to the show after four years, and perhaps another of Jack’s siblings won’t be far behind. We asked Scott about the chances of Carol Jackson returning to the show.
He seemed very keen to see the comeback, amid reports that Max’s son Oscar Branning will be on the show soon too. Speaking of historic characters returning, Scott told us the show did this well, making all kinds of returns possible.
He told us: “Well listen, my family is strong. The Brannings have got a long list of very strong characters, my sister, my brother, they are all brilliant. They would be more than welcome back. That is the beauty of this show.
“The work you put in, it doesn’t go away. It is always manifesting itself in new ways, in new kids or a new person, so there’s always [ a possibility]. That’s what happens. There’s always people going, people coming back.
“It’s the amazing strength of this show because we can use people who are already a part of the history.” Scott is also excited for what new Executive Producer Ben Wadey has in store, after Chris Clenshaw stepped down.
He shared: “Ben is following Chris. Chris had worked for the show for a long time and worked his way up. It’s exactly the same with Ben. He isn’t coming in from the outside and trying to change things.
“He knows the show well, so it’s very exciting. It is basically a relay race with Chris handing the baton over.” Scott isn’t the only one who’s addressed the rumoured return of Max, with his onscreen daughter Lauren Branning actress Jacqueline Jossa teasing more.
She commented: “I have seen the rumours. I feel like you would have to ask Ben [Wadey], I’d love it. They tell us nothing. I feel like they tell me nothing because if they tell me, I will tell the world by accident.
“I know nothing. It’s Max Branning. I’d love him back but he’s super busy. We’ll ask Ben, we’ll beg Ben. Where is he?” It’s then that the star revealed there were huge things to come on the show, with “exciting” plots unfolding around December time.
Jacqueline revealed: “I’m a massive fan of the show. I am so excited for [what’s happening], cut to 6 months time, where the show will be [in six months time]. It excites me. You don’t know but we know, it’s very exciting.”
