It was a dramatic cliffhanger on tonight’s EastEnders as sneaky Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) was seen recording Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) and Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) kissing. Now, fans are concerned the reveal will have devastating consequences for Jean Slater (Gillian Wright).

Last week, Cindy returned during Peter and Lauren’s engagement party, as she previously promised to get revenge on Kathy for hitting her over the head with a shovel on Christmas Day. Upon return, Cindy demanded the deeds to Beale’s Eels, the chip shop and the house for her to keep quiet. However, as Kathy and Ian were reluctant to give in, Cindy now has something else up her sleeve.

During Tuesday’s episode, Harvey and Kathy were seen having an emotional chat in the Square, after Harvey had been proposed to by Jean. Reluctant to accept at first – Harvey couldn’t bring himself to decline, and the pair announced they’d be having a long engagement. Previously, Harvey had told Kathy he’d reveal all to Jean so they could be together, but things didn’t go to plan.

As Harvey revealed all to Kathy, he told her she was “the most beautiful women he’d ever met” and he wanted to be with her. Although the two thought they were speaking in private as they revealed their love to one another, they were unaware Cindy was filming in the background.

Earlier on in the episode, a distressed Jean was seen confiding in Kathy after Harvey initially “rejected” her proposal – revealing how she thought it was to do with her bipolar, as Kathy tried to reassure her.

However, fans think another devastating storyline could be on the way for Jean’s mental health after she finds out about her friend Kathy and fiancé Harvey’s affair.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: “Now we know Harvey’s secret is at risk of coming to light thanks to Cindy – I just hope this doesn’t lead towards Jean having another manic episode especially when tensions are so fragile between the Slaters right now.”

A second wrote: “Poor Jean 🙁 she deserves so much better than Harvey. What a coward, he doesn’t deserve her at ALL #eastenders,” as a third concerned fan said: “Poor Jean! It’s going to have devastating consequences for her!”

It’s not the first time Jean has proposed to Harvey, two years ago while she was suffering with her mental health. Speaking to Kathy in tonight’s episode, Jean said: “I should’ve learnt my lesson the first time he turned me down.

“Running around Southend. Why on earth I thought he’d want to marry me I don’t know. I know I was in the middle of an episode but I still remember his face at the hospital.”
