Emmerdale Charles Anderson’s new love interest ‘confirmed’ and they’re already in the village

Emmerdale fans are convinced they’ve “uncovered” Charles Anderson’s new love interest, and they’re already in the village.

Village vicar Charles (Kevin Mathurin) made his debut in the Dales in 2020, and has since been at the heart of numerous memorable storylines.

Shortly after his arrival, viewers discovered that Charles’s son, Ethan (Emile John), was also relocating to the village.

Regrettably, their close bond was severed when Ethan tragically died following a hit-and-run revenge attack last year.

Ethan had previously lost control of his car, causing his passenger Nicky Milligan (Lewis Cope) to fall into a coma. In a vengeful act, Nicky’s mother Ruby (Beth Cordingly) struck Ethan with her car, reports Belfast Live.

Despite recovering from the accident and facing charges for dangerous driving, Ethan collapsed on the day of his court hearing.

A grief-stricken Charles later disclosed that Ethan had passed away in hospital due to an undiagnosed brain aneurysm.

In addition to his strong bond with his son, Charles has also embarked on several relationships during his time in the village.

He notably dated village GP Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker), whom he knew as Saira when she was leading a double life while already married.

Their relationship ended in the aftermath of Ethan’s death, as Charles realised that Manpreet wasn’t ready to fully commit to him.

Charles had a fling with Laurel Thomas last year

In September 2024, Charles began a fling with Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy). Their romance was ignited during a heated row over the village’s harvest festival celebrations, culminating in their first kiss.

However, their romance didn’t last long as the duo called it quits a month later.

Now, Emmerdale viewers are calling for Charles to begin a new relationship that could last for the foreseeable future.

While some people would like the vicar to try again with Laurel, many fans are hoping that a romance could blossom between him and Kim Tate (Claire King).

Soap viewers will recall that Kim’s husband, Will Taylor (Dean Andrews), died on Boxing Day after suffering a heart attack.

One person wrote on Reddit: “My wish for Charles’ next storyline would be a genuine nice love story, possibly some scenes of some of Charles’ services down in the church and he falls for one of the women that come to them… just a slow burning NICE love story.”

Another added: “Be hilarious if he starts going out with Kim, can imagine Claudette’s reaction and Jamie’s with his fling with Andrea,” while a third said: “Omg I could totally see Charles and Kim together.”

Meanwhile, a fourth viewer shared: “A bit cliché but I really wanted him and Laurel to be together.”
