Emmerdale is set to welcome a new member of the Barton family to the village, and he will be played by Bradley Riches.

The ITV soap delighted fans last month when it revealed that Heartstopper star Bradley would be joining the soap in a brand new role.

Despite the excitement surrounding the character’s announcement, the exact details of who he would be playing have been kept under wraps.

However, on Thursday (April 24), Emmerdale confirmed that Bradley is playing a new Barton – the younger brother of Ross, Pete, and the late Finn.

Posting the news alongside a picture of him and Ross Barton actor Mike Parr on Instagram, Bradley wrote: “Hello brother… I guess good looks do run in the family.”

Soap fans were left stunned by the news with one person writing: “Omg another Barton brother!!”, while a second stated: “I gasped.”

A third chimed in with: “Looking good”, and another added: “Can’t wait to see you in Emmerdale Bradley!”

ITV soap bosses confirmed in March that the former Celebrity Big Brother housemate has joined the cast and has already started filming scenes.

The 24-year-old actor will arrive in May as Ross Barton’s (Mike Parr) younger brother, but not much else is know about the character.

Speaking about the new role, Bradley said: “I’m beyond excited to be joining Emmerdale! It’s a real bucket list moment for me, especially since it was my grandad’s favourite soap, I just know he’d be over the moon.”

He added: “Everyone has been so lovely and welcoming, and the village is even more amazing in real life.

“I absolutely love my character (though I can’t spill too much just yet!), and I’m just so grateful for this opportunity. I can’t wait for everyone to see what’s in store.”

The soap’s producer, Laura Shaw, added: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Bradley to the Emmerdale family.

“Bradley brings a wealth of talent and his warmth, wit and charisma makes him perfect for this new Emmerdale role.”

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV and ITVX
