John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) is hiding many secrets from his friends in the Emmerdale village, and the one revealed tonight has changed the game completely.
Yesterday, John found Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) in a bad way at the surgery. Because it appeared as though Kerry was just hungover, John thought there wasn’t any need to conduct the normal checks on his patient, and reckoned all Kerry needed was a bit of rest.
Just as she left though, Kerry felt dizzy. The moment was witnessed by Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), who wondered if John had checked Kerry’s blood sugar levels.
It became apparent that Kerry was suffering from diabetes ketoacidosis and needed to go to hospital to be treated. If Liam hadn’t found Kerry in that moment, John would’ve sent her home believing she had just drunk too much, and her life would’ve been in danger pretty quickly.
Getting demoted to reception duties for the rest of the day left John feeling utterly humiliated. That evening, he went to the scrapyard and released his anger in a way we’ve not seen before, smashing a car to pieces.
What happens in Emmerdale tonight?
In tonight’s episode, John remained terribly on edge which was impacting the way he spoke to Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller). As he entered The Hide, John found Liam sorting some admin.
A few moments prior, Kerry was talking to John in the café and he got the impression she hadn’t taken her hospital trip very seriously.
This led John to the conclusion that his mistake wasn’t as huge as Liam was making out, because Kerry wasn’t doing anything to help herself either. Liam pointed out to John that they have rules to follow – and he didn’t do that.
Leaving The Hide in a terrible mood after learning his work was being reviewed, John reacted badly to Aaron’s arrival and then left to be on his own.
At the flat, John was later seen talking to Vic Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) about his history as a medic, and how he once attempted to treat an army recruit, but they had a bad reaction to the treatment he gave him.
Vic tried to reassure her brother and reminded him of the importance in focusing on the present, rather than past events.Just before the episode ended, Vic found Aaron and said that John has calmed down now, unaware of what he was really doing.
In a hospital room, we saw John arriving to visit a man, who is in a coma. We don’t know who this new face is, but John’s comments suggested they know each other well.
Is this the person John referenced while talking to Vic?
