Emmerdale legend Mark Charnock breaks silence as Marlon Dingle receives ‘crushing’ news
Emmerdale's Marlon Dingle has been trying to protect his daughter April Windsor from her new friend Dylan, but his actions have bene met with d.e.a.d.l.y consequences
Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle in Emmerdale, has given fans a glimpse into what’s next for his character following his drastic attempt to end April Windsor’s friendship with Dylan, which took a dangerous turn.
In recent episodes of the ITV soap, Marlon intervened to halt his daughter’s new friendship, without fully considering the potential consequences.
Since April (played by Amelia Flanagan) returned after disappearing on Christmas Day, Marlon has been grappling with her reluctance to fully disclose her experiences living on the streets. April has been somewhat distant from her father, feeling that he wouldn’t understand and often finding his attention stifling.
In an effort to rebuild trust, Marlon allowed April’s street friend Dylan (Fred Kettle) to stay over. Initially, this was meant to be a one-night arrangement, but Marlon later told April that Dylan could stay until he had stopped using spice.
During Monday’s episode (March 10), Marlon and his wife Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) discovered a vial of ketamine missing from the vets’ drug cabinet while discussing Dylan and April. The pair quickly concluded that Dylan was responsible, leading to a tense confrontation at their home.
Despite Dylan’s insistence on his innocence, the drugs were found hidden in his pockets, reports Leicestershire Live.
Dylan was sent packing, but Marlon received a distressing call informing him that Dylan had been hospitalised, possibly due to an overdose. He quickly admitted that he’d orchestrated Dylan’s departure to protect April.
Discussing the fallout from Dylan’s overdose, Mark confessed: “He immediately regrets it. He just went blind with trying to get rid of him. He didn’t think of the consequences.
“He should have thought before he jumped and he regrets it immediately especially hearing Dylan has an overdose, which is the most crushing piece of news and Marlon is responsible for that overdose really. I think he knows that so his immediate reaction is he’s got to try and square it and make it up to him. He feels awful.
“When the kids come back, that’s when the next incredibly equally difficult second act begins .You’ve had the horror of them not being there, you find them and now it’s the indescribable confusion trying to understand what they are now, which is a different person to when they left the house.”
How will April react when she discovers her dad is the real reason Dylan was kicked out?
