Emmerdale legend Mark Charnock reveals what 2025 holds for him on-and-off screen
Mark Charnock has played Marlon Dingle in Emmerdale since 1996
An Emmerdale star has given a little hint about his year ahead on-and-off screen.
Marlon Dingle star Mark Charnock, 56, appeared at an Emmerdale press event to preview the upcoming festive season storylines. A major one will see his on-screen daughter April vanish on Christmas Day.
Marlon will be involved heavily in upcoming scenes. The character is a village legend having first appeared in 1996.
In recent years, Mark received praise from fans and awards panels for his portrayal of Marlon’s stroke. He’s also been involved in a number of major storylines with his latest set to air over the festive season.
Reflecting, Mark explained: “It has been great (being involved in so many Emmerdale big plots). I’ve been very lucky with storylines from the stroke onwards.
“I had a quiet summer which was nice. As we’d had the intensity of the stroke and then the Ivy storyline which was brilliant to play. I thought that was a really interesting moral storyline all the way through.
“It really divided the audience, which is exactly what we wanted. Then there was a break and into this (April’s teen troubles and upcoming disappearance). I hoped they might play a story like this. So, when it came up I thought it was great.”
April reconnecting with Ross, who dated her deceased mother Donna, has only added to Marlon’s recent heartache. Spoilers show this will lead to a confrontation between Marlon and Ross.
Addressing the recent return of Mike Parr, Mark said: “What is lucky for me is that I get to work with Mike Parr who I just love working with. He’s a terrific actor to work with – a very generous actor.”
Mark said that despite the issues between Marlon and Ross he feels there’s a ‘connection’ between them which he’d like to see explored in 2025. In terms of the year ahead, Mark was asked whether he will take any new year’s resolutions into the coming 12 months.
Bluntly, he replied: “I have never understood it. I know I won’t stick to them. It always seems to me that I could make a resolution from September 5 – do you know what I mean?
“I never quite understood and people rarely stick to them. It just seems to me a waste of a promise to yourself which is the worst promise.”
Well, there’s still hope for the Marlon and Ross stoyrline at least…
