Manpreet Sharma’s blackmailing ordeal only worsens tonight on Emmerdale as we find out the truth about who has been targeting her. Manpreet had started posting saucy images online but soon, she was targeted by a mystery person who wanted money off her.

Appearing on Lorraine this morning, Rebecca Sarker – who plays Manpreet – teased: “We might find out – we might not. It’s an hour long episode tonight so there’s more scope for that. She’s got herself into a bit of a pickle, posting some saucy photos on the internet on adult subscription sites … She needed affirmation, she needed a boost in her self-esteem. She did get that; it’s quite addictive actually. But then it turned quite toxic.

“It could be a number of people and a number of candidates. A vendetta against her, somebody in a dire financial situation, someone that’s going through their own relationship problems.”

In tonight’s episode, which will be an hour long owing to schedule changes later in the week, we will find out what happens to Manpreet. There will be no soaps on Friday evening because of the World Cup qualifier between England and Albania, which airs from 7pm, hence the longer episode this evening to allow for the missed Friday episode.

The Mirror has chosen not to reveal who the blackmailer is, but those who want to find out can either tune in this evening to watch the episode play out on ITV, or the hour-long episode can be watched now on ITVX.

However, what we can say is that there will be big ramifications when the truth is revealed about the blackmailer’s identity – and is just another shocking storyline linked to that character!

Speaking about the big storyline, Rebecca told The Mirror of Manpreet’s decision to join the site: “They tell her it would be perfect for her and she takes the bait. She starts disrobing and posts some pictures of herself scantily clad.

“It’s a little bit of titillation; she feels a bit cheeky, a bit naughty and a bit risqué. She’s had her relationship issues. She’s lonely and her confidence is at rock bottom. She keeps getting ‘likes’ and it does wonders for her self-esteem. I might be a little bit guilty of that as well. Sometimes I’m on Instagram and you do get a little bit of a boost if someone likes your posts.”

She added: “I was never on Instagram before this job and I thought I would never use it. But I’m not going to lie, there is a certain buzz about it. It’s hard not to feel good when people say nice things. And that’s basically what Manpreet is getting. She’s getting a little confidence boost …I’m always posting pictures of myself in bikinis! My children laugh about it and my youngest said to me, ‘one of the teachers at school is following you.’ I joked, ‘yes, quite right!’ I would never put my family up there, but I don’t mind doing it.”
