Emmerdale Moira star issues warning to fans after cancer scare as she had ‘no idea’
Emmerdale's Chas Dingle was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and soap star Natalie J Robb has issued a warning to fans after experiencing a scare of her own
Emmerdale’s Natalie J Robb has warned fans after suffering a cancer scare.
The actress, 49, best known for her role as Moira Dingle on the ITV soap, appeared on a recent episode of Lorraine where she discussed Chas Dingle’s (Lucy Pargeter) breast cancer diagnosis. Natalie shared more about her own experience and urged people to check themselves for lumps.
The soap star said: “Like myself, I had a scare last year. I found a lump in my right breast and when I went to the doctors, they said, ‘We are more concerned about the one in your left,’ and I had absolutely no idea.”
Natalie added: “And even though you are feeling for things, you’re not sure how to do it properly. So that’s why it’s so, so important. Luckily for me they were benign. Be aware and check your boobies.”
Lisa Riley, who portrays Mandy Dingle, opened up about her mother’s journey with breast cancer, revealing that she passed away nearly 14 years ago after ignoring the symptoms.
“What’s so important about this storyline is how early Chas found the lump, thanks to Dr Liam,” the actress said. “For me personally, in my own family, my mum was an ostrich, she put her head in the sand.”
The 47-year-old added: “She thought it was something that would go away. It won’t go away. And you can’t be like that. My mum, personally, wasn’t that lucky. That’s a testament to why we are doing what we are doing today.”
Last week, Chas revealed to her family members that the cause of her cancer is the faulty BRCA2 gene, meaning they could also have it. Chas urged her son Aaron (Danny Miller) to make an appointment for his test referral.
During Monday’s instalment (March 4) of the ITV soap, Vinny (Bradley Johnson) accidentally lets slip to Chas that Aaron has no intention of getting tested. Later, he arrives at the hospital to support Chas, where she reveals her intention to have a double mastectomy. When Chas opens up about how afraid she is, Aaron requests his referral for the gene test.
