Emmerdale Sam Dingle star reveals sex scene secret that ITV bosses tell him off for

Emmerdale favourite James Hootan - who plays Sam Dingle on the ITV soap - has opened up about one cheeky thing he does on the show that TV bosses forced him to stop

Emmerdale star James Hootan opened up about one cheeky X-rated action he tries to slip into every scene.

The beloved actor has been on our screens since 1995 and his character Sam Dingle has been through countless storylines over the years. The ITV favourite’s character has been shot, trampled over by a cow and even kidnaped.

Back in 2020, Sam and Lydia finally tied the knot after years of dating. Just years later in October 2022, Sam became a grandfather when Amelia Spencer gave birth to Samson’s daughter Esther.

But over the past few months, fans have watched the village regular struggle to keep his marriage alive after the matriarch was raped by her former childhood sweetheart Craig Reed. Now, the actor has revealed one cheeky detail he still tries to slip into her performance years later as Sam Dingle attempts to repair his marriage.

Speaking to outlets at the time of Sam and Lydia’s wedding, the soap hunk confessed he often tries to make it look like his character has been interrupted getting down and dirty with his wife at home. He chuckled: “I always try to make it look as though we’ve just come out of post-coital situations.

“If we start a scene where we’re coming down the stairs, I was always trying to zip my flies up on the way down for a laugh.” But it appears as though his cheeky antics are not always appreciated by producers, who eventually asked him to stop unzipping his flies on set.

James went on: “And the director would always pick up on it and say, ‘James, please don’t do your flies up on the way down from the stairs. We don’t want to give the audience that impression’.”

It comes after fans discovered the actor’s real accent and surprising life away from the cameras. It’s fair to say James is worlds away from his on-screen character and usually spends most of his spare time with his fiancée Nancy Lucas and their two adorable children, Lilly, 17, and Ava-Rose, seven.

When the actor’s not with his family, he is busy improving his already impressive rock-climbing skills – which explains why the star has an incredible physique at 50-years-old. The soap star got engaged to dance company owner Nancy on Valentine’s Day back in 2010 and the two have been in the throes of love ever since.

But it hasn’t always been easy for the happy couple, who struggled to conceive their second child and tried for two years before trying IVF to give Lily a younger sister. They went through a lot of planning and were about to begin the long process when the miraculously fell pregnant with their youngest daughter naturally.

He once revealed his fiancée was in labour with Ava-Rose while he was working on the Emmerdale set. The star immediately left set to rush to hospital and made it there just in time for his daughter’s arrival – which happened in only three pushes.

The ecstatic father told OK! Magazine at the time: “Luckily, I haven’t had loads on at work either, so I’ve be able to spend a lot of time at home.” Emmerdale airs on weekdays from 7.30pm on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX.
