The results for which of the Dingles has the faulty BRCA2 gene are in in Emmerdale.

Upon learning she had the BRCA2 gene, Chas (Lucy Pargeter) immediately set about convincing her siblings and son to get themselves tested. It wasn’t an easy sell on any of them, with Aaron (Danny Miller) putting up the most fight. But she stuck to her guns.

Eventually she got through to them, and the three reluctantly took the test. This brings us to now where Cain (Jeff Hordely), Caleb (Will Ash), and Aaron all receive their respective notices and gear up individually to learn of their fates.

Cain is the first to rip open the seal with Moira (Natalie J Robb) by his side. It’s a relief on the most part, he’s negative, but Cain is overcome with the guilt that this means Chas is facing it alone – and he’s reflective on what’s to come for her.

Caleb is the next to seek the truth, and he receives double the relief when he learns that he doesn’t have it, so neither does Nicky.

Chas is over the moon to hear that her brothers are in the clear. She tentatively asks Aaron if things are A-OK with him too. It’s tears of relief all round when he confirms that he too is negative. Chas is at a loss for words as she’s overcome with emotion – her loved ones are all safe.

Except they’re not, and Aaron is hiding a dark secret. His test was positive – he has the gene.

This not only suggests there is the devastation of the truth to come, but opens up the possibility that Aaron too could be struck down with the Big C.

His lies aren’t as sinister as they may seem, as actor Danny Miller alludes to metro.co.uk that they may be a delay tactic in giving himself time to come to terms with what it means.

‘More than anything, I don’t think he realises the seriousness of it straight away. I think it’s a case of him having to deal with it fairly quietly and privately, so much so that he lies to people about it,’ he says.

Chas is emphatic in her relief, leaving a guilty Aaron to fake an emotional response, a tough thing for a man with a heart as cold as ice.

He no doubt regrets caving to his mum’s demands and getting the test. But will he be able to come to terms with it, or is this him burying his head in the sand? Or is this alluding to a future storyline?

What’s next for Aaron is now up in the air, with Danny admitting he’s not sure of his character’s future as he navigates his increased risk of getting cancer.

‘I don’t know whether they’re going to explore it. They certainly haven’t told me if they are,’ he says. ‘It sets it in that there’s the potential that it could trigger [in] Aaron, that he at some point would have to deal with that side of things.’

He added that he’s crossing everything that his character isn’t going anywhere for a while, which could be a bit awkward given that as the actor has just moved to Leeds to be closer to set!

‘I’d be interested in playing that story and hopefully he gets over it!”
