Emmerdale star addresses working with real-life Coronation Street siblings for crossover
Emmerdale star Amelia Flanagan is hopeful she will get to film scenes with her real-life Coronation Street siblings as the ITV soap crossover is confirmed
Emmerdale’s Amelia Flanagan has opened up about the soap’s upcoming crossover with Coronation Street.
The actress plays April Windsor in the ITV soap and her siblings William and Isabella Flanagan both appear in rival show Corrie as Jospeh Brown and Hope Dobbs.
It has been confirmed that Weatherfield and Emmerdale village will be colliding in the near future and Amelia has shared her hopes at sharing the small screen with her brother and sister.
Speaking to the Mirror at the British Soap Awards, Amelia said: “I think everything is still in the pipeline at the moment, so we will have to watch this space and see what happens.
“It would be brilliant to explore that crossover because there’s three of us in the soaps.”
“It would be incredible, and it’s very exciting. So fingers crossed we get some scenes together.
“It’s never been done before, the crossover, and so much could happen.”
At the glitzy awards ceremony, Amelia was swept away by emotions as she scooped up the accolade for Best Young Performer, a category that also saw her younger brother William in contention for his role as Corrie’s Joseph.
William celebrated his sister’s victory with a standing ovation and warm applause as she was announced the winner.
Amelia reciprocated the love in her winners speech, holding back tears as she held the trophy high and said: “This means everything. I just want to say, my little brother who I love so much.”
She continued with heartfelt thanks to the team at Emmerdale and closed her emotional speech, her eyes glistening with tears: “Thank you so much, this means the world to me.”
Post-awards, the siblings joined their fellow cast members and their parents at the celebratory afterparty for some quality time together.
Amelia also opened up about what lies in store for April following a year of profound storylines.
She explained: “April has had an incredibly tough year with what she has been through, with the pregnancy and the homelessness storyline.
“April and Dylan didn’t leave things on the best terms, but I think what is important now is that he’s back.”
“Who knows what will happen. It will be great to explore that relationship further, I think fans want to see that which is great.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and available to stream from 7am on ITVX and Coronation Street is on ITV at 8pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
