Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill)’s life has taken quite a turn on Emmerdale recently as she finds herself in a love triangle as Kammy (Shebz Miah) and Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) go head-to-head to impress her.
After being badly let down by Jacob who initially wasn’t ready to deal with the fact that she has a life-limiting illness, Sarah met Kammy after he stole a quad bike from Butlers.
This seemed to be the excuse Sarah needed to unleash a rebellious streak as she’s determined to live her life to the full – which has led her to some reckless behaviour, including locking Rodney Blackstock (Patrick Mower) in the back of a van.
In upcoming episodes the two men vying for Sarah’s attention, Jacob and Kammy, plan a dirt bike race – and they even get other members of the family involved.
‘There is a sort of competition going on between Cain (Jeff Hordley) and Charity (Emma Atkins) as well, because Charity is backing Jacob and Cain is sort of backing Kammy,’ Katie Hill told us. For the participants themselves, however, it’s all about Sarah.
‘I think it’s more about who’s going to win Sarah’s affections. It is definitely, you know, man versus man – whoever wins the race is sort of the best man and the biggest wolf and stuff. So yeah, it’s definitely more to do with their egos than the dirt bike race itself.’
While the boys are planning to slug it out on the dirt bike track, Sarah is taking a more logical approach by sitting down with Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) to try and decide what Sarah’s real feelings are for Jacob and Kammy.
‘They basically talk about the pros and cons of both Kammy and Jacob and she tries to help Sarah decide where her head is at with both of them,’ Katie explained. ‘It turns out to be a 50/50 split between them so it does not help Sarah out at all, as she realises there are both pros and cons with both of them.’
Despite this, Katie reflected that there’s unfinished business between Jacob and Sarah.
‘I think it would be nice for both of them to open up to each other because deep down they both still have got feelings for each other and they went through such a lot together. But I think they need to have a proper conversation to communicate everything that went on because they still haven’t had that closure.
‘I think her and Jacob do still have feelings for each other. They just haven’t communicated it or found their way to admit it to each other yet. So I think it would be nice to see them explore their relationship back to each other.’
While she’s at Vanessa’s house Sarah sees a picture Sam (James Hooton) has posted. The race has taken place – and Jacob has been involved in a crash.
Katie said this comes as a shock to Sarah. ’She’s really worried – particularly after everything he has gone through with losing his mum to a car crash. She’s well aware that this will have shaken him up.’
Katie told us that she’s having a great time at Emmerdale at the moment as she’s being given so much to do – and there’s much more to come as she’s filming some exciting stuff, the details of which are still under wraps.
‘Oh my gosh, yes, I am so excited,’ she enthused.
‘Every week I just can’t wait to get to work and get on set. Yes it’s some really big stuff and it is so nice as an actress to get my teeth stuck into something so big. I am really excited and grateful that I have been given this work to do.’
