Emmerdale star discusses departure after 12 years and confirms if he’d ever return
Former Emmerdale star Liam Fox has addressed whether fans could see him back in the village any time soon.
The actor played Dan Spencer on the ITV soap between 2011 and 2023, with his character currently in prison for manslaughter.
Since leaving the Dales, Liam has appeared in several stage productions and is now starring in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang The Musical in Sheffield.
He admitted he doesn’t miss Emmerdale but would be open to the idea of returning in the future.
Speaking to Leeds Live, Liam said: ‘Emmerdale was fantastic in many, many ways. It was 12 years, maybe I’ll go back one day, maybe I won’t. Whatever job you do, when you have been there 12 years, you need a change of scene. I’m glad I’ve had it.
‘I don’t miss the job at the minute, as I was there for so long.
‘Dan is only in prison. So to a certain extent I feel as though Dan, as a person, is still in the show. He’s just not on screen. I’m just enjoying life and moving on.’
Of a possible return, he continued: ‘[The Emmerdale bosses] have said they are open to it when that time is up. He got eight years, he’ll probably do four, so he’ll be out in a couple of years. Whether he’d come back, I don’t know, as his daughter now lives in Leicester.
‘It depends if the writers come up with something decent and what I’m doing at the time. Who knows, let’s see what I’m doing at the time and what the universe brings.’
Liam added he is still in touch with many people from the show, calling them his ‘best mates’, with Tony Audenshaw (Bob Hope), Chris Chittel (Eric Pollard) and Lesley Dunlop (Brenda Walker) all coming to see him in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Liam’s character Dan was sent to prison for eight years in 2023 after accidentally killing a stalker called Lloyd.
During a confrontation, Dan punched Lloyd, causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on a rock.
Since Dan’s exit, his adopted on-screen daughter Amelia Spencer (Daisy Campbell) has left the village to go and live with her biological dad and Dan’s brother Daz Spencer (Mark Jordon), which is also closer to where Dan is in prison.
