Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden teases ‘big news’ with Roxy Shahidi
The actor announced that he had an update with the Leyla actress on his Instagram
Former Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden tease fans with “big news” as he filmed a video with Roxy Shahidi ahead of their podcast.
Matthew appeared on the ITV soap in 2006 to take on the role of David Metcalfe. As the son of Eric Pollard, he arrived in the Dales in search of his father after his mother Lydia passed away from breast cancer.
During his time in the village, he had a string of failed relationships with Priya Sharma, Victoria Sugden and Leyla Harding. However, he did become a father figure to step-son Jacob but the pair had their troubles after Jacob struck up a relationship with David’s ex-girlfriend.
Matthew originally left the Dales after being offered the starring role of Buddy in an eight-week run of Elf the musical in London’s West End. He’s also recently appeared in Channel Five’s Good Ship Murder, taking on his first TV role since leaving the Leeds-based soap.
“They’re not killing me off. I’m allowed to tell you that, I might be back, but we’ll see.” As of yet, his character hasn’t returned to the soap, even with Leyla’s funeral airing.
Former co-stars and good friends Matthew and Roxy recently announced that season two of the podcast will be out 30th April, with a new episode out every week with a fan question special being posted at the end of the series as a bonus episode.
They continued: “We’ve got no content yet, but we will have. We’re content creators now. Matt and Roxy’s TikTok, follow us. There’s absolutely nothing on there” as they both laughed.
Roxy departed from Emmerdale in March of this year after her character Leyla Harding was killed off during the Valentine’s limo crash.
Since leaving the soap, this new podcast venture is a side hustle along with her new business Yoga Rox, where she posts online practices and also wants to travel and teach.
Speaking with Digital Spy about her future she said: “It was bittersweet. Getting the push was a mix of emotions. It was a sense of relief, because you think: ‘Now I’ve got to get out there and do some new things’.
“I’m going to do corporate yoga with online subscriptions and I want to travel with the yoga too. I’m really excited about doing more podcasts with Matthew Wolfenden and maybe doing some presenting. I also write, so I want to do more writing. I want to keep acting, too.”
