Robert Sugden’s return to Emmerdale caused trouble for ex Aaron Dingle on Thursday night.

Aaron had a huge choice to make between the two men in his life, after actor Ryan Hawley reprised his role on the soap on Wednesday. Robert was seen interrupting Aaron’s wedding to John Sugden, Robert’s secret brother he has never met until now. Soon battle lines were drawn in a feud as the hope for Aaron’s affections commenced. Robert was seen pleading with Aaron not to go through with marrying his brother John and to give their romance another chance now that he was back and out of prison.

Things took a turn though as Aaron struggled with his comeback just as he prepared to marry John, and after speaking with his ex they shared a shock kiss. As Robert pleaded for another chance at happiness, Aaron called him out for coming back after so long.

Aaron was not over the fact he’d suddenly changed his mind about coming home and reuniting. With that and with the support of his furious mother Chas Dingle, he vowed to go ahead with his marriage plans with a worried John. Soon there was a bitter run-in for John and Robert, and later his brother went to confess all about the kiss.

He suggested John’s hopes for marriage with Aaron were “dead in the water”. But when Robert realised Aaron was upset he decided not to reveal all and instead told everyone that Aaron had chosen John instead.

John wanted to hear it from Aaron’s mouth though, and he wanted to know if the wedding was going to go ahead after Aaron had fled earlier on in the episode. With that Aaron couldn’t give an answer truthfully with John telling him he was going back to the hall and would wait for him to decide whether they would marry or not.

The episode ended with Aaron expected to choose between both loves, but who will he go for? While his response will be shared on Friday night, a scene and some comments by actor Ryan may have teased where Aaron’s heart lives.

Regardless of what he decides in the present, will Robron find their way back to each other? In the scene with Robert, the kiss could be a giveaway that his feelings are still there, writes The Mirror.

That said, the fact he did not agree then and there to get back with Robert and actually told him it’s John he’d chosen could suggest the wedding will go ahead. The scene with the three of them at the end could have further hinted this, when Aaron signalled to Robert not to share all about the kiss.

Robert’s message that Aaron had moved on basically and wanted John appeared to seal the deal that Aaron was planning on continuing with the wedding. So it does seem that on Friday there’s every chance Aaron marries John and picks him, especially with it seeming that Robert will be away from the village before his permanent comeback.

Of course though there’s every chance old wounds and feelings will resurface and at some point, Robron will reunite. Robert is back to finally get his man, sharing his feelings and hoping to reconcile.

It’s Robron and it’s Emmerdale so we’re not expecting an easy ride, and there’s no doubt plenty of angst along the way. If Aaron did pick John too he would not take it well, and it seems more fitting for Aaron to continue with his new flame all the while harbouring feelings for his ex, ready to send killer John into a spiral.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
