Emmerdale: ‘work out’ Joe Tate’s secret phone caller in ‘return from d.e.a.d’ twist
Emmerdale fans are convinced they've worked out who Joe Tate was speaking to on the phone and that a major villain is set to return to the Dales
Emmerdale viewers believe they’ve figured out the identity of the mystery person Joe Tate was conversing with on the phone – and it’s a former Dales villain.
Joe, played by Ned Porteous, made his dramatic comeback to the Dales last month, six years after his departure, and has already stirred up a lot of trouble for the village residents.
He arrived as part of a scheme to bring down Kim Tate (Claire King), alongside her husband Will Taylor (Dean Andrews). However, the plot took a shocking twist when Will suffered a fatal heart attack after Joe spilled the beans.
In the wake of Will’s death, Joe has remained in the village, posing as the supportive step-grandson and claiming to be there for Kim. But Joe’s return has also caused quite a stir among the other villagers, with many shocked to see him back in the Dales.
Adding to the intrigue, Joe is concealing a significant health issue. A scene earlier this month showed him in pain and struggling to breathe. This week, the drama escalated when Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) discovered a drunken Joe in his car in a ditch, along with a bottle of p.a.i.n.k.i.l.l.e.r.s.
Assuming he’s addicted, Dawn expressed her worries, but Joe later insisted he’s been taking the p.i.l.l.s since Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) tried to k.i.l.l him years ago, reports Leicestershire Live.
Nonetheless, it’s evident he’s hiding something else. Later, Joe was seen making a phone call, telling an unknown individual that he was finding it hard to keep his secret. Emmerdale viewers are now certain they know who Joe could’ve been talking to on the phone.
And fans are predicting a bombshell double comeback set to shake up the village. Devotees of the Dales took to an Emmerdale Facebook fan group to spill their theories.
One superfan wrote: “So who’s Joe speaking to on the phone? ” Others were quick to speculate: “Jamie Tate” and “Hopefully Jamie!”
The talk is all about Kim Tate’s son, Jamie (played by Alexander Lincoln), who vanished from our screens in 2021 after pulling off a fake demise in a car wreck. While his mum Kim reckons he’s gone for good, Jamie’s actually hidden away with his lass Millie and her grandmother.
Other armchair detectives are betting that Graham Foster (portrayed by Andrew Scarborough) could be the man on the other end of the line. Despite being k.i.l.l.e.d off a while back, Graham was close to Kim as her spouse and like a dad to Joe.
A member of the forum suggested: “With Joe, I think he’s colluding with an undead Graham, if not Jamie. Kim will find out,” while someone else confessed: “I have been convinced Graham isn’t dead since he d.i.e.d.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
