Emmerdale fans are convinced they’ve figured out John Sugden’s real name amid a new mystery.
The ITV soap has revealed that viewers will finally see the real John Sugden and the secrets and lies that surround him in upcoming scenes next week.
As the brother of Victoria Sugden and fiancé of Aaron Dingle, John, played by Oliver Farnworth, has been hiding his true persona with the secrets he has been keeping from everyone. Even Aaron, played by Danny Miller, is unaware of what he is capable of.
In a series of flashback scenes, soap watchers will learn more about the man who appears to be a supportive and considerate part of village life.
With their wedding fast approaching, viewers will be left wondering whether Aaron will get to know who he is really committing to spend the rest of his life with…
Taking to social media, viewers have been sharing their theories on the new storyline and who John really is.
One person said: “He isn’t John Sugden. His real name is the one that was on those dog tags he threw away”, a different account put: “That’s what I think too. Did he m.u.r.d.e.r the real John?” while another added: “It was Aiden Moore on the Dog Tag.”
Soap watchers will recall that Victoria stumbled upon a dog tag with Aidan Moore on it in her brother’s van last year to which John claimed he was a friend of his in the army.
John said they were best mates and served together in Afghanistan. However, tragically, Aidan was k.i.l.l.e.d when a bomb went off.
John said at the time: “I tried my best to save him. I told him I could but I was lying, I had to. I could see the fear in his eyes. I held his hand as he slowly slipped away.”
With it confirmed that ‘secrets and lies’ surrounding John will be exposed, could he be lying about Aidan and his real identity?
It comes as Emmerdale producer, Laura Shaw, teased of the new storyline: “Since enigmatic and inscrutable John Sugden arrived on our screens last summer, he’s managed to hide some pretty big secrets from his family and friends.
“As his clandestine acts are revealed, the audience has an opportunity to really get inside John’s mind and to finally understand exactly what this mysterious character is really about.”
Emmerdale airs every weekday at 19.30pm on ITV1, ITV X, STV and STV Player with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
It is also available each morning from 07.00am on ITVX.
