Cain and Moira Dingle’s (Jeff Hordley and Natalie J Robb) marriage is heading to the rocks in Emmerdale as he has finally confessed to sleeping with Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) while his wife was in her life-saving operation.
It’s a mistake that had fans yelling at their TVs – as he spiraled over fears he would lose Moira, Cain came face to face with a drunk Ruby.
Ruby, as she explained to husband Caleb (William Ash), was in self destruct mode, wanting to hurt herself after the reappearance in her life of her abusive dad Anthony.
It led Ruby and Cain into a deeply ill-advised clinch, one that they instantly regretted – but the damage was well and truly done.
Cain has been consumed by guilt and self-loathing ever since, and has so far withheld the truth from Moira as she undergoes radiotherapy.
But Caleb learnt the truth via a parting shot from vile Anthony and, while driving a limo during a night out, he let rip at his shocked brother.
Taking his eyes off the road, Caleb crashed the limo and, outside in the freezing cold, Caleb lost it, leaving a huge beating on Cain.
Back home, Moira was shocked to see the state of Cain. Assuming he’d been in a fight, she was sympathetic at first.
But he knew he had no choice but to come clean.
And, as Moira’s world suddenly crashed due to the confession, fans will now fear that this is truly it for the turbulent but beloved couple.
While he wants to stay working with Natalie, actor Jeff told Metro that he is glad of the material that will emerge after Cain’s liaison with Ruby.
‘Out of it comes lots of stories with Moira and it creates further avenues to explore for Caleb and Cain,’ he reasoned to me during our interview.
‘One minute you think they’re going to be great brothers and they’re on the same wavelength and there for each other.
‘The next minute they absolutely hate each other and they want to k.i.l.l each other. That’s good and it keeps things interesting.’
