Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle faces unexpected danger
John puts his next plan into action.
Emmerdale spoilers follow for Thursday’s episode (19 June), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX and hasn’t yet aired on TV.
Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle’s life is in danger in today’s episode – but what does John Sugden have to do with it?
K.i.l.l.e.r John has been struggling to move forward, following the return of his half-brother and Aaron’s ex-husband Robert.
This week, he called a mental health support line to talk about his problems, and the volunteer encouraged him to focus on what he does best – saving people.
Viewers know that John enjoys putting people in danger then saving their lives and looking like the hero, so this call encouraged him to seek out his next victim in today’s episode.
Meanwhile, Cain asked Tracy about funeral arrangements for his son Nate, but she insisted that it would be a small affair, still believing that he k.i.l.l.e.d her late husband.
Eric made a comment about Cain’s rocky relationship with his son, so Cain hit back by mentioning Eric’s son David. But Eric then delivered some brutal home truths, saying that Nate d.i.e.d thinking his dad didn’t care, and Cain was left devastated.
Later, Sam gave Cain a bottle of ‘Moonshine’, strong alcohol that Zak made before his d.e.a.t.h – but this led Cain to realise that Debbie had been in contact with other members of the family but not him.
John decided to make Eric his next target, arranging a house visit in his capacity as a GP so he could strike. But when John noticed Cain stumbling around the village drunk, he immediately changed his plans.
He cancelled on Eric and took Cain home, where he encouraged him to continue drinking heavily. As John opened another bottle of whiskey, Cain opened up about all the loss he has experienced in his life.
Cain drank until he was in a dangerous state, and when he got up from the kitchen table, he suddenly collapsed into the living room.
With John stood over his body, is Cain his next victim to save, or will there be another twist? You’ll have to watch the full episode, on ITVX now or on ITV1 this evening, to find out.
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
