It feels like only yesterday that Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and Mack Boyd(Lawrence Robb) were tying the knot in dramatic Emmerdale scenes, but this evening’s (April 19) episode saw them celebrate their first anniversary.

As Mack presented Charity with flowers, and Charity prepared a slap up breakfast, they were thrilled when Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) and Noah Dingle (Jack Downham) revealed that they had chipped in to get them a night in a hotel.

However, Charity still had one more surprise for Mack, who was feeling down about missing out on son Reuben’s first birthday.

Viewers will remember the moral dilemma Mack had last year, over whether to attend his wedding to Charity or be at Chloe Harris’ (Jessie Elland) side as she delivered their son.

Fast forward a year, and Chloe has left the Emmerdale village, seemingly for good, leaving Mack with no chance of seeing his son again.

However, this didn’t stop Charity from encouraging him to celebrate Reuben’s birthday, even going so far as to buy Mack a card and present to put away for him for when they’re finally reunited, to prove that he was always thinking of him.

As Charity made Mack make a wish while blowing out a birthday candle, he revealed that he didn’t think it would come true, though Charity urged him not to lose hope.

She pointed out that she had managed to reconnect with son Ryan (James Moore) decades after his birth, and that one day Reuben would want to find out about his dad.

Viewers will remember that Charity spent years believing that Ryan had died during his birth, having fled from the hospital after delivering him.

Decades later, she discovered that he had survived and had been adopted, and eventually the mother and son managed to form a close relationship.

Will Mack have the same luck in future, or has he lost Reuben for good?
