Emmerdale has taken another twist in the April Windsor disappearance storyline tonight (January 15), as Ella Forster is blamed for her going missing.

In Wednesday’s episode, Ella was devastated to see that her conviction for k.i.l.l.i.n.g her friend when she was a child had made the front page of the Hotten Courier, and the headline was implying a “potential connection” to April’s disappearance.

As she went over the details of the article to Manpreet Sharma, Wendy Posner (who was blackmailed into giving various villagers’ secrets to a vicious reporter) tried to console her, saying no one reads newspapers anymore and the ones who did know that she would never hurt April.

Ella said she still hasn’t been able to get used to people turning their backs on her once they found out. She said “nobody’s ever done anything like this before”, believing it to be personal.

“I’m gonna find out who, and make them sorry,” she said, as Wendy began to look increasingly guilty.

While walking through the village with Wendy, Ella said she wanted to go the journalist to find out the source. She also told Bob Hope she couldn’t have gotten through the day without her co-worker.

The journalist soon turned up and Wendy called her out for printing Ella’s name and details of employment. But the reporter had no intention of retracting her report and instead wanted even more information.

This storyline serves as the exit plot for Wendy. Actor Susan Cookson has already filmed her final scenes after five years on the soap, though the door is being left open for her to possibly return.

Elsewhere in the episode, Ruby Fox-Miligan discovered that Caleb isn’t Steph’s biological dad and when he learnt that, he angrily kicked her out of the house.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
