Emmerdale’s Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) recently revealed that he was prepared to put his relationship with Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) before everything – including his career and future prospects.
The young medical student had been offered a prestigious placement in Berlin, but when he got the news he immediately decided he wasn’t going to take it because he preferred to find a placement somewhere more local where he wouldn’t have to be apart from Victoria.
Their romance is still very much in the honeymoon stage after they got together at the end of last year, so smitten Jacob couldn’t contemplate six whole weeks without his beloved.
Even though she tried to convince him that six weeks in Berlin wasn’t the end of the world, he was adamant. Worrying that their relationship was holding Jacob’s career back, Victoria made the decision to end the relationship.
This selfless move ended up making nobody happy. Jacob was heartbroken, while his granddad Eric (Chris Chittell) and mum Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) fumed about how Jacob and Victoria’s relationship had caused such turmoil in the family – being the reason that David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) left the village and vowed never to return – only for it to fall at the first hurdle.
An angry Eric even persuaded Jai (Chris Bisson) to find a way to sack Victoria from her job at the Hide because of the mess she’d made of his family.
In coming episodes Victoria is desolate as her romance is over and she has no job, either. Moira (Natalie J. Robb) encourages her to look for work elsewhere.
Wendy (Susan Cookson) tries to cheer her up by taking her out for lunch, thinking that time away from the village will help her.
But when they get back to Emmerdale Victoria bumps into Leyla, who can’t resist getting into an argument with her about Jacob. And in the middle of the argument, Victoria can’t hold back all the emotion she’s been feeling and ends up punching Leyla.
PC Swirling (Andy Moore) is quickly on the scene and Victoria is arrested for assault. How will Jacob deal with that news when he finds out?
Is there a way back for Jacob and Victoria, or is the rift between her and Jacob’s family now too deep?
