Emmerdale’s Jonny McPherson addresses exit ‘concerns’ 11 years after debut

Emmerdale star Jonny McPherson has opened up about his role as Liam Cavanagh after 11 years on the soap

Emmerdale’s Jonny McPherson has expressed his joy at continuing his role as Liam Cavanagh after an exciting 11-year stint.

The beloved actor first graced the screens as the charming GP in 2014 and has since been a pivotal part of Emmerdale’s drama-filled plots.

Recently taking the spotlight in a harrowing limo crash storyline, fans and characters alike were left on tenterhooks, uncertain of Liam’s fate. Speaking to journalists, McPherson shared, “I had quite a few texts from friends expressing concern but thankfully Liam lives to fight another day.”

The star went on to reveal his gratitude for his enduring presence on the show, saying, “To be perfectly honest I’m just delighted to still be here. We all know acting is a precarious game and nobody’s got any guarantees of longevity on a soap.”

His narrative continues: “You’ve just got to be grateful for the time you’ve had and if and when the time comes you’ve got to do the best you can with it.”

In upcoming scenes, peril looms as Ella Forster (played by Paula Lane) begins to lose her grip. Chas Dingle, portrayed by Lucy Pargeter, and Liam are alarmed as Ella starts bombarding them with messages and calls, reports Leicestershire Live.

John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) suggests that Liam should switch off his phone to evade Ella’s insistent communications.

A brief respite follows until Belle Dingle, played by Eden Taylor-Draper, finds out that their wedding cancellation is broadcasted through an email, hinting at an intensification of Ella’s stalking.

As tensions rise, Liam reaches out to the authorities when one of the pub’s windows is shattered. With certainty that Ella is the culprit, Lia, and Chas are oblivious to the fact that she’s covertly observing them.

Ella later unexpectedly confronts Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) at home, insisting on speaking with Liam. When Mandy declines, Ella detains Mandy against her will, forcing Liam to come over. She tries to persuade Liam that she’s being set up and he attempts to trick her into confessing by feigning a reunion.

Upon realising Liam’s deceit, Ella seizes a knife. Chas and Mandy arrive and Ella escapes with Liam following her.

In the woods, a clash ensues where Ella shoves Liam causing him to fall and hit his head. Thinking she might have killed him, Ella weeps over his body but is Liam dead?

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
