Emmerdale’s new village shop owner ‘exposed’ as fans believe it’s soap legend
An Emmerdale favourite is set to leave the soap village as he steps down as owner of the shop – but fans think they've already figured out who the new owner will be
Emmerdale fans believe they’ve cracked the mystery of who’s poised to take over Eric’s Shop. The beloved shop has been a fixture on the soap since 2009, with various characters stepping into the roles of owner and manager over the years, including David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden).
At present, soap icon Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) is in charge. However, it seems the shop may soon have a new proprietor, given Eric’s recent difficulties in the Dales. As fans will recall, Eric is looking to sell the shop due to his substantial debt to ex Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop), who left the village this month.
Adding fuel to the fire, employee Tracy Robinson (Amy Walsh) has been taking money from the shop till, struggling with her own financial issues as a single mother, according to Leicestershire Live.
However, the truth came to light this week after Eric examined the accounts in preparation for selling the business. When he noticed money was missing, he assumed he was at fault, leaving Tracy feeling even more guilty, reports OK!.
But in Thursday’s episode (April 10), Tracy’s theft was exposed by her inebriated sister Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick), who gave Tracy a piece of her mind and revealed her thievery to Eric. Devastated by the betrayal, Eric fired Tracy as the pub customers silently observed the drama unfold.
Last year, poor Eric ploughed a hefty sum into crypto, only to watch it go up in smoke when his bank account got cleaned out.
To add insult to injury, he didn’t just gamble with his cash he also dipped into his fiancee Brenda Walker’s (Lesley Dunlop) piggy bank without asking and lost that too.
Now, amid all the turmoil in the Dales, viewers think they’ve ‘solved’ who will buy the shop from Eric – and it’s a former soap star.
“I wonder who might buy the shop from Eric,” pondered one fan on an Emmerdale Facebook page, leaving fans to share their own theories underneath. Buzzing with anticipation, some viewers swiftly suggested that Eric’s lad David might swoop back in to snatch up his rightful inheritance.
Another fan convinced of a stirring return posted: “David! He needs to come back.”
Adding their thoughts, a viewer pointed out: “He has lots of reasons to return. Leyla’s d.e.a.t.h, Jacob spiralling and now Eric.”
Ever since he first appeared on our TV in 2006, David quickly became an Emmerdale staple. But in a jaw-dropping turn this year, d.i.e-hards were shocked when Matthew Wolfenden, the actor behind David, opted to ditch the scenic Dales following a stint of 17 splendid years.
This left fans mulling over whether they’d seen him on screen for the last time.
