Emmerdale’s Ruby delivered shock ultimatum after Caleb pregnancy bombshell
EXCLUSIVE: Emmerdale star Beth Cordingly has shared more about Ruby Milligan's past as she revealed her character was handed an ultimatum when she fell pregnant as a teenager
Ruby Milligan was delivered an ultimatum after learning she was pregnant.
Emmerdale star Beth Cordingly made her debut as Ruby in January and has certainly ruffled some feathers since arriving in the Dales. She was introduced as the estranged wife of Caleb (Will Ash) and the mother of Nicky (Lewis Cope).
She hasn’t wasted time making enemies in the village and only last week found herself barred from The Woolpack after an incident with Charity (Emma Atkins). Ruby continues causing drama next week when she ends up in a slanging match with Nate (Jurell Carter).
Later that night, Ruby opens up about her past and describes to Nicky what she gave up to build a life with his dad. Beth, 47, touched upon the scenes in an exclusive chat with Daily Star and other press.
While it isn’t spelled out on-screen, the actress revealed that Ruby was given an ultimatum by her parents after falling pregnant with Caleb’s baby as a teenager. Beth explained: “The story is that Ruby got pregnant with Nicky as a teenager with Caleb and her family made her choose.
“I have this line where I say, ‘Things were said and then we stopped talking to them’. But what I really like about the way it’s written is that Caleb has this big moment where he thanks her, but because he’s being so sincere, Ruby starts laughing.
Beth added: “She’s just not expecting the way he reacts. But Ruby treats it like it wasn’t a big deal.” At one point during the conversation, Caleb suggests it was his fault and he could have tried harder with Ruby’s family. But she completely dismisses this thought which Beth believes shows how loyal Ruby is to her husband.
The star said: “She is very defensive of him and there you can see her massive loyalty and how much she adores him. Beth went on: “I think that’s really nice because a lot of the time she’ll play poor me about stuff, but this is one time where she doesn’t milk it.”
