Exclusive: Emmerdale star confirms major year-long storyline affecting multiple characters

Emmerdale actress Louise Jameson has detailed an 'anxious' time ahead for one family on the ITV soap, in a huge new storyline kicking off next month which will run for at least 10 months

Emmerdale is lining up a huge new storyline set to kick off next month, with it running well into 2025.

Several characters will be involved in the major storyline, with one family left “anxious” about events that occur. Details have yet to be confirmed, but Mary Goskirk actress Louise Jameson exclusively told The Mirror that it was a “child involvement storyline”.

While she wasn’t able to go into too much detail, she revealed the long-running plot would see the soap “heat up” before the end of the year. It’s set to involve a whole family, seemingly Mary’s consisting of daughter Rhona, Rhona’s husband Marlon Dingle and their children.

Teasing what’s ahead at the Inside Soap Awards, she told us: “They’ve given me such an easy summer I can’t tell you. But apparently November is really going to heat up.

“We’ve got a… I’m not sure how much I am allowed to say, but we’ve got a child involvement story so the whole family is going to be very anxious, that’s all I can say.” She added: “I know our storyline will span over 10 months, it’s a 10-month journey. That’s all I know.”

Asked about preparation for such a lengthy storyline, she revealed: “I think it’s really important to know exactly when you lose your temper and exactly when you cry. Ever writer and director wants to have the money moment, but in a very long stor

On what she hopes viewers will take from the mystery storyline, Louise told us: “I always hope they know there’s life in the old dog yet, and that at 73 you’re not gonna be given a zimmer frame and a cardigan, and that you’re gonna be given something vibrant, interesting, worthwhile and contributory to do.”

Louise also addressed Mary’s recent absence from the show, with her given time off ahead of her huge storyline. She revealed: “She’s being the supportive grandmother in the background. I think she is looking after Ivy a lot backstage. She’s singing the baby to sleep,” joking she was upstairs all along.

But viewers will be seeing plenty of Mary soon enough, with her even securing herself a place behind the village pub, The Woolpack. Louise revealed: “In my mind I was getting too much of a ‘dream gran’ because I think she’s got a tougher spine than that. They have put me behind the bar.

“I sort out a couple of rows so the spiky Mary is on her way back. I was so pleased. When they say you are gonna be behind the bar you think, you’re only there for a year and then every year you’re told it’s a year. When you are put behind the bar you think it might be a bit longer.”
