Exclusive: Emmerdale star confirms missing Mary Goskirk’s whereabouts as absence sparks concern
Emmerdale viewers had been questioning where Mary Goskirk had vanished to after being offscreen for weeks, and now ITV soap star Louise Jameson has revealed all
Emmerdale star Louise Jameson has addressed her character Mary Goskirk’s sudden absence from the ITV soap, after viewer concern.
Fans of the show were left wondering what had happened to Rhona Goskirk’s mother, after huge scenes earlier in the year. Mary has been AWOL for weeks, not seen onscreen for a while leaving fans confused.
Mary had been caught up in drama with her daughter Rhona and her ex Gus, leading to a prison twist for him after the arrival of their baby daughter Ivy, during a controversial storyline. Rhona’s embryos had been used without her consent by ex Gus and his new partner, who later died.
Rhona now has custody of little Ivy with Mary on hand to support the family. But what has happened to her and where is she? Speaking exclusively to The Mirror at the Inside Soap Awards, actress Louise spilled on where Mary currently was.
She explained her absence and hinted when she might be back, teasing big scenes ahead. Louise is back filming now after having most of the summer off, confirming Mary would be at the centre of a huge storyline kicking off in November that would run on for months, into 2025.

She explained: “They’ve given me such an easy summer, I can’t tell you. But apparently November is really going to hot up.” Teasing her whereabouts, Louise confirmed that despite being offscreen for weeks, Mary was in fact still in the village – we just haven’t seen her out and about.
She revealed: “She’s being the supportive grandmother in the background. I think she is looking after Ivy a lot backstage. She’s singing the baby to sleep,” joking she was upstairs all along.
But viewers will be seeing plenty of Mary soon enough, with her even securing herself a place behind the village pub, The Woolpack. Louise revealed: “In my mind I was getting too much of a ‘dream gran’ because I think she’s got a tougher spine than that. They have put me behind the bar.
“I sort out a couple of rows so the spiky Mary is on her way back. I was so pleased. When they say you are gonna be behind the bar you think, you’re only there for a year and then every year you’re told it’s a year. When you are put behind the bar you think it might be a bit longer.”
On what’s ahead for Mary, she teased of her hopes: “I don’t think I want her to settle down cos if she settles down, all the drama goes so another disaster is what I’d like.”
