EastEnders fans were all echoing the same sentiment as Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) made the heart-wrenching decision to depart Walford in poignant scenes.

In Thursday’s episode (May 22) of the BBC One soap, Stacey ventured outside for the first time in weeks, grappling with the loss of Martin Fowler (James Bye).

However, Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) grew worried when Stacey invited her and Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) over for a large family dinner, fearing she might be pushing herself too hard too soon.

Stacey attempted to inject some cheer into the household but soon discovered that her coat and mobile phone had inadvertently ended up in the laundry bag, which Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) had taken to be cleaned.

Stacey revealed that the mobile held voicemails, photos and texts from Martin, all of which would be lost forever if the phone got damaged, reports Belfast Live.

As she dashed off to retrieve the phone, Alfie was left rattled when little Arthur disclosed that he’d heard recent voice notes on Martin’s phone from Stacey, suggesting she believes Martin is still alive.

At the laundrette, Kat and Lily tried to soothe Stacey, fearing she might be having a bipolar episode, but she insisted she recognises the signs and that’s not what’s happening.

However, when Alfie relayed Arthur’s information, a row erupted between Stacey and Lily, leaving their relationship hanging by a thread.

Lily has chosen to live with her father Ryan Malloy (Neil McDermott), feeling it’s best for her little one, Charli, while Stacey also comes to a significant conclusion about her path forward, deciding to move in with Lynne Slater (Elaine Lordan).

On X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, reactions came pouring in from viewers.

One fan commented: “but the ending of today’s episode left me feeling depressed not gonna lie like Stacey leaving to go to Lynne’s and Lily to Ryan… is this their exit from the show? ! ? #eastenders.”

Another chimed in with their thoughts: “So Lily leaves for Ryan, Stacey Hope Arthur go to Lynne, is this their exit? #eastenders” and another added to the speculation: “So is that Stacey’s exit?”.

It was confirmed earlier this year that actress Lacey Turner is taking an extended break from EastEnders.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and available to stream on BBC iPlayer from 6am
