This article contains spoilers for tonight’s EastEnders, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.

Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) may be set for heartbreak after a huge move in recent EastEnders scenes.

The soap stalwart took a massive step in his relationship with Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) when he got down on one knee in the Queen Vic and asked her to marry him.

He went to quite the effort to make the proposal special after Cindy’s complaints that he wasn’t very romantic, even calling in a barbershop quartet to serenade her.

He even offered an olive branch to Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) amid their recent feud in a bid to involve her in the surprise for her mum.

After Ian casually threw the idea of marriage around last week, Cindy had very low expectations when it came to the proposal, expecting nothing more than some cheap wine, pork scratchings and a knock-off ring.

However, she insisted that she didn’t mind, as he was there for her, and that was more important than him being romantic, she insisted.

Cindy didn’t hesitate as she accepted Ian’s proposal, despite the fact that two of her exes and the man she’s been having an affair with were watching on.

It was safe to say that neither George Knight (Colin Salmon), Junior Knight (Micah Balfour) nor David Wicks (Michael French) seemed thrilled by the engagement – and this may be set to cause trouble in upcoming scenes.
