Inside EastEnders star Laura Doddington’s life including real-life family
EastEnders star Laura Doddington has joined the BBC soap as newcomer Nicola Mitchell, but what else has the actress appeared in and what is her life like off-screen?
EastEnders has seen a flurry of new and returning faces in Albert Square recently, including the new Mitchells and the comebacks of Mickey Miller (Joe Swash) and Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton). The latest additions to the ever-expanding Mitchell clan – Teddy (Roland Manookian), Harry (Elijah Holloway) and Barney (Lewis Bridgeman) – have been a pleasant surprise for Walford, seamlessly blending in with the rest of the EastEnders crew.
It wasn’t long before viewers met Teddy’s ex-wife Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington), who arrived with a mission to stir up trouble. Having taken over the venue that was once Peggy’s nightclub, Nicola has made it clear she’s here for the long haul.
Let’s delve into actress Laura Doddington’s life outside of Walford, including where you might recognise her from…
Laura is a British actress known for her roles in various popular TV shows and theatre productions. She has an extensive voice work portfolio, featuring in several Doctor Who and Torchwood audio dramas. Her voice work also extends to video games, including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Many will remember her as DS Mayes in the Sky adaptation of The Midwich Cuckoo. She starred alongside Keeley Hawes in the series that aired in 2022.
Laura has appeared in TV favourites such as Casualty, Holby City, The Bill, Doctors and People Just Do Nothing. She’s no stranger to EastEnders either; flashback to 2009 when she took on the role of a character named Barbara, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Now at 43, Laura keeps a low profile when it comes to her personal life, leaving fans guessing if she’s currently single or taken. However, she doesn’t shy away from sharing snippets about her young son on X every now and then. Instagram for Laura is all business – she mainly uses it to spotlight her EastEnders gig.
Earlier this year, Laura couldn’t contain her excitement about becoming regular Nicola on the show, saying: “I still can’t believe I’ve joined EastEnders – I keep pinching myself! I grew up watching the show, so the first time I filmed in The Vic, I was like a kid at Christmas to be in such an iconic place with such a brilliant cast and crew.”
On her on-screen alter ego, she revealed: “Nicola is a complex woman who comes in like the Tasmanian Devil! She’s strong and completely unapologetic about who she is. I’ve been so lucky to have my Mitchell boys, Roland, Elijah and Lewis, as they’ve taken me under their wing, and we feel like a family already. I’m loving every second so far.”
