Is Emmerdale on tonight? New soap schedule revealed amid massive shake-up

ITV viewers have grown accustomed to an hour-long trip to Emmerdale instalment every Thursday, the Euros 2024 are forcing soap fans to wait before getting their next fix.

EastEnders and Emmerdale fans will, once again, be the most affected by the Euros 2024 schedule this Thursday.

Soap bosses have kept the London-based drama on the air but with the football frenzy on the rise across the nation, they decided to move the BBC One program over to BBC Two.

Unfortunately, over on ITV, Emmerdale bosses have made way for the live coverage of the Euros 2024 as Spain prepares to go head to head with Italy, the defending champions, this Thursday, June 20, at 8pm.

As a result, fans will have to go without their hour-long instalment of the long-running program, which is normally aired on ITV from 7.30pm every Thursday.

While Emmerdale fans will have to wait until Friday to catch up on all the drama in the Dales, EastEnders fans will be tuning into BBC Two for their own fix

While EastEnders will air during its usual 7.30pm slot on BBC Two, ITV viewers at home will be able to tune to the broadcaster’s Evening News from 6.30pm before catching up with all the Euros 2024 updates from 7.15pm and until 10.30pm.

Both soaps will be back to their regular schedule this Friday, June 21, with both Emmerdale and Coronation Street reprising their usual 7.30pm and 8pm slots.

Frustrated soap fans have shared their frustrations over the changes in their schedule on X, otherwise known as Twitter, with most of their criticism targeting ITV due to the frequent cancellations of both Emmerdale and Corrie.

To keep fans waiting, bosses have made sure Emmerdale episodes are available on ITVX, on the day of their airing at 7am, while EastEnders instalments are added daily to BBC iPlayer at 6am.

Emmerdale viewers were recently treated to an hour-long episode on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, but this wasn’t enough to keep them satisfied as complaints flooded social media.

“Why oh why does football have to be on ITV there are sports channels to watch on , most people have sports channels if not all the pubs show it on the big screen, how would they like it if they put coronation street on a sports channel’s and said sorry we are not showing you the live match we are watching the soaps instead”, one of them notably penned.

Soaps are not the only programs to be impacted by the Euros 2024 schedule as Loose Women was scrapped from ITV’s daily programming on both Wednesday and this Thursday, leaving viewers disorientated.

Jay Blades’ Repair Shop over on the Beeb has also been dismissed from its regular slot and fans have been increasingly concerned for the future of the show following the presenter’s intention to take a break from the program.

Luckily, viewers won’t have to wait very long before the renovation show makes a return as the 13th series will continue on Tuesday, June 25.
