There’s a DNA bombshell heading for Emmerdale, as one resident finds out about their secret sibling very soon.

But the news has certainly confused some viewers, with it emerging one former resident had a secret child that no one knew about. Said character was actually in the village years later and didn’t mention it to her family, before her dark crimes and her own sinister exit.

Now, actor Bradley Riches, who plays the secret son in question, has cleared up all the details about his new character Lewis Barton. Bradley has revealed how exactly Lewis is linked to existing characters Ross and Moira Barton, and whose son he actually is.

It turns out villain Emma Barton, Ross’ mother who was k.i.l.l.e.d by Moira back in 2017, had a son she told no one about. Emma failed to mention to her husband James Barton, who she later k.i.l.l.e.d, or her three other sons Ross, Pete and Finn that there was another relative they had not met.

But it seems James was not the father of Lewis, and Emma had her son while she was away from her husband and sons. Emma had been absent from the family prior to her arrival in the village in 2015.

Speaking about Lewis’ link to the family, actor Bradley told The Mirror and other press: “Lewis and Ross have the same mum, Emma Barton. We don’t have the same dad. I come on the scene, I write a letter to Ross to basically get this relationship because I didn’t have many family members growing up.

“I wanted to get to know my half-brother as well as wanting to know things about my mum I’d never had the opportunity to know.” On whether Lewis ever met Emma, he claimed this was not the case and Lewis was adopted as a baby.

He said: “There was a moment where she left the family, a space of two to three years in which she had a secret child, which was me. She gave me away for adoption. I didn’t ever know her but I knew of her.

“I think that’s what made my character want to reach out to get to know her more.” Ross is set to be left reeling by the news that he has a secret brother, and that Emma had another child.

Speaking about the bombshell, Ross actor Mike Parr told us: “It’s quite hard for Ross to get his head around because he’s lost so many people that he loves. There’s so many similarities between this character and Finn that he puts his walls up because he can’t emotionally afford to lose anybody else.

“It takes a little while for Ross to let his guard down. But you’ll see that the character is quite infectious and it’s hard for Ross to say no to him because he is very pure and it reminds him of Finn. It’s been nice for Ross to have somebody on his side, because he was starting to think that he had the touch of d.e.a.t.h.

“Everybody he gets close to seems to get k.i.l.l.e.d off. He’s lost two girlfriends, four family members and he’s had a lot of unlucky situations.” Moira, Ross’ aunt, will be left panicked though given if Lewis finds out what really happened to Emma then he will know she ki.l.l.e.d her.

Mike explained: “If you recall, it was Ross who dragged Emma Barton up to the viaduct but he leaves because he wants her to throw herself off the bridge. He leaves her and Moira goes up there. So there’s a lot of secrets and a lot of guilt for Moira, so it’s quite a pressurising time for her to find out there’s a new Barton who’s got a lot of questions and there’s only Moira and Ross who have the answers.”
