Is Mary Goskirk leaving Emmerdale? ITV soap character’s future revealed
WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS - Emmerdale viewers said goodbye to another character on Wednesday's episode
Emmerdale bid a sad farewell to Mary Goskirk on Wednesday’s episode.
During the latest instalment, which is available on ITV X, Mary attempted to make amends with Vanessa Woodfield to no avail.
Viewers will recall that Vanessa was left heartbroken to learn that Mary was the person Suzy had secretly kissed before she d.i.e.d in the limo crash earlier this year.
On Wednesday’s episode, Mary revealed to daughter Rhona Goskirk that she was going to give Vanessa space by leaving the village for a while.
Mary also explained that she wanted to leave the village so Rhona, Marlon Dingle and April Windsor could work through their differences, working to become one happy family again, without her in the way.
During a heart-to-heart, she said: “I think I might go away for a while. Visit your aunty Vivian down in Brighton”, adding: “You said it yourself, Vanessa needs space – and I think you lot do as well. Just look at everything that’s gone on here lately – you didn’t even have a clue.
“You’ve all been through so much, I think you need to figure out what it is to be a family again. What you don’t need is a live-in granny, making it all harder.”
Confirming her departure, Mary said: “It won’t be for long, poppet. I’m always at the end of the phone.”
Mary’s exit will come as a surprise to soap watchers with many wondering if the popular character has left the village for good.
However, viewers need not worry as Digital Spy report that it’s just an ‘on-screen break’ for the character and she will be returning at a later date.
It comes as soap watchers saw Joe Tate leave the village earlier this week for Dubai following his sinister Caleb Milligan attack in order to steal his kidney.
Soap watchers have been left wondering whether this is the last they’ve seen of Joe, especially as he appears to have got away with his sick plan scot-free.
However, it appears that Joe, who returned back in December after six years away, will be getting his comeuppance, which hints he could be back in the village once again.
An Emmerdale spokesperson told Metro: “Emmerdale covers a wide ranging scope of subjects in its storytelling. From births to deaths and everything in between, the nightly stories entertain, inform and raise awareness.
“We regularly work with organisations, help groups and charities for the portrayal of many of these subjects. But sometimes our characters go rogue acting out of desperation or whilst under pressure. Joe Tate’s desperate actions are not being held up as an example and as with any soap villain he will ultimately get his comeuppance.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
