It’s about time PC Swirling became a regular on the show – here’s why
Swirling has made an impression on villagers and fans
PC Swirling is a very consistent character in Emmerdale. And so, with the amount he is called to the village it makes sense that he should be a regular character.
Actor Andy Moore who plays the adored policeman, first joined the soap way back in 2004. In fact, two days ago (April 2) was his 11 year anniversary of being on the show.
Over the last 11 years, he has actually been more consistent with appearances than a few main cast members have been. So, it’s time he gets a regular contract.
Why PC Swirling should be a regular in Emmerdale
Swirling has remained the main go-to policeman for the village. Honestly, at this point he probably has a special request at the station to let him be the one to make the Emmerdale arrests.
But aside from taking some of our favourite characters to prison, he’s also experienced character growth from his time on the show.
Over the years, he has bonded with the villagers (maybe because of how many times he has arrested them) and it seems he does actually care about them.
There have even been times where he has gone easy on them, or let them off completely. It’s clear he secretly likes them.
Just a few days ago, when he showed up to investigate the smashed window at the pub, he referenced already hearing about Chas’ drugging so he clearly keeps tabs on them. And then he asked about Caleb’s health after Joe’s kidney theft ordeal. Caleb hasn’t been in the village as long as the others, and already Swirling cares enough to check in.
PC Swirling would bring fresh storylines
Aside from that, it would always be helpful to have a copper in the village, especially if they are on your side. Remember Harriet? We haven’t really had a police officer living in the village since her.
The storylines that could come from PC Swirling becoming a regular in Emmerdale. Just because he has been on our screens periodically for 11 years doesn’t mean we actually know much about him. Does he have a family? Perhaps there could be some secret ties to Emmerdale residents – anything could happen in SoapLand.
And the fans love him! Every time he is on the screen, there are calls for him to be more permanent. His character brings a bit of fresh relief to the village. It would be nice to see more of him, and to learn more about his own past.
Basically, he has given 11 years of service to Emmerdale, so we think it’s about time he gets a regular role.
