Kerry exposed

It seems Kerry Wyatt finds herself rumbled as her lies to daughter Amy are found out. In upcoming scenes, the character is forced to admit she doesn’t have the money to pay for Amy’s wedding to Matty Barton, despite offering to fund it weeks ago.

It leaves the wedding in jeopardy, with it thought it can’t go ahead until wedding planner Leyla Harding announces it’s back on after taking a mystery phone call. But where does this leave Kerry and Amy, and will it lead to the truth about what she is hiding and the identity of her offscreen ex coming to light?

Actress Natalie Ann Jamieson who plays Amy on the show hinted Kerry’s latest actions could tear apart their relationship just as they got back on track. Natalie told The Mirror and other press Amy would be “livid” with her mother for letting her down yet again, with her lies set to impact Amy and Matty.

Tom King and Belle Dingle’s coercive control storyline is about to escalate ones more, with it seeming that Tom will turn violent towards his wife. Laura told us: “We’ve seen how their wedding night ended with Belle in tears, and we’ve seen since how Tom started to manipulate Belle and coercively control her.

“This long-running storyline has been really carefully researched and it’s going to continue over the next few months. We’ve been given access to real-life stories and spent time with charities like Refuge. What we’ve learnt from them is just how quickly coercive control relationships can turn physical, so that’s what we’ll see happen next with those two.”

Tragedy leaves character facing death

Tragedy will soon hit the village with another big accident, which could tear two families apart. Remaining coy on who it involves and what happens, Laura said: “We’re gonna see an accident happen that’s gonna affect two big family groups.

“It’ll connect those family groups together. We’ll see someone in some really serious medical jeopardy, whether they live or die we’ll have to see. What I can tell you is that the ripples and repercussions from that accident will be very long-lasting and life-changing for a number of our villagers.” It’s said the scenes will unfold in the next few months.

Wedding joy

Following Mandy Dingle and Paddy Kirk’s engagement, Laura teased their big wedding was on the cards while it is still being storylined. She said: “Mandy and Paddy, obviously their love story has been brilliant recently.

“We’ve seen them get engaged. There is gonna be wedding bells in the not too distant future, I can’t tell you more than that as we’re still planning it but I’m pretty sure with Mandy and Paddy involved, it is gonna be a lot of fun.”

Laura also teased the arrival of mystery newcomer Rose, with her identity and link to existing character Will Taylor set to be exposed. Laura said: “We’ve got a new character joining the show called Rose.

“She’s mysterious, boisterous, bolshy and a bit of a free spirit. She loves to party. What I can tell you is she is somebody from Will’s past and she’s gonna be on our screens fairly soon. She’s gonna be causing a real storm at Home Farm and with Will’s wife Kim.”

Cancer heartache

Laura also touched on a devastating storyline on the way for Billy Fletcher and Dawn Taylor, and their baby son Evan. She said: “We have got a big story coming up for Billy and Dawn. We are going to see their world totally rocked when almost out of nowhere Evan is diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

“ALL is one of the most common childhood leukaemias. I think 650 children and young adults are diagnosed every year in the UK. What we really want to show with this story is just what a stress and a strain it can put on a family, a long-term illness like that.

“What we see is the roles of Dawn and Billy are changed overnight and out of nowhere. We will see how Lucas and Clemmie are affected and the stress it will put on that sibling dynamic.

“We’ll see how it affects Billy and Dawn’s relationship and the wider family and all their friends, and the financial pressure that looking after a child like this long-term can put on a whole family. So that’s going to be a big story for us going forward.”

Special episodes

Laura also teased some special episodes on the way including one featuring Tom and Belle. She spilled: “With our storylines we’ve been trying to find new and innovative ways to tell the story, so we’ve got a special episode coming up where we step away from our usual Emmerdale format and do things a little bit differently.

“It’s a dinner party mainly focussing on Belle and Tom and Marlon and Rhona, and we’ll see what’s going on in their relationships and through a special way we’ve done it, we’ll be able to see that what you see in public is not necessarily what you see behind closed doors.

“It’s not the only special episode we have got planned this year but I am not allowed to tell you about the others. But there are other special episodes as well that are slightly different.”
