Emmerdale will air a devastating exit for one resident next week, leaving others reeling.

Angel King will find out her sentence this week, as Nicola and Jimmy continue to struggle with what’s about to happen to their family. Next week on the ITV soap, Angel says an emotional goodbye to her family when she gets her sentence for killing Heath in the New Year car crash. She is sentenced to eight months but the family are dealt another blow when they find out what secure children’s home she has been sent to – and it’s miles away from their home in the Yorkshire village.

Nicola continues to struggle, unsure what she can do as she thinks about how much her daughter must be struggling. Elsewhere, Bob is emotional as he reads Angel’s letter, whilst Nicola – having received a distressing phone call from Angel – doesn’t know what to do. Nicola heads to the B&B to talk to Bob, and the pair unite over their shared losses and grief.

Nicola Wheeler, who plays Nicola King, has opened up about the emotions her character and Jimmy are feeling ahead of the sentence. Speaking about their emotions, she explained: “Very, very tense. I think some of Nicola’s attitude is perhaps – Angel isn’t this kind of child that’s gonna take this flippantly. You know, she isn’t going, oh, well I killed Heath, off I go.

“She’s very sorry for what she did and why can’t that be punishment enough? Her life will never be the same because of what she did. And I think it’s that thing of hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.”

She added: “And that’s what they go in – whilst trying to boost Angel and keep Angel calm, I think both Nicola and Jimmy are going in with that kind of attitude of, please don’t say three years, because that’s what they’ve been told she could get. The audience actually learned it through Bob, Brenda, and Cathy having a conversation.”

Angel ends up getting eight months, but in an even more heartbreaking turn of events, Angel is sent to Bristol. She said: “So the last thing we see of Nicola and Jimmy is Angel’s given eight months. They say their goodbyes off screen and the next scene you see is them discussing Angel getting sent to Bristol, so she’s not local.

“They then feel very sorry for Nicola and Jimmy because they realise this is gonna be a lot harder because she’s been sent away as well. And then the next time we see Nicola and Jimmy, they come home and they’re just in complete shock. I think whilst a lot of people might think, well it’s only eight months, I think for them it’s a lifetime.”
