ITV Emmerdale fans seething after jaw-dropping Rhona Goskirk twist

Soap fans will know that Rhona Goskirk has fought tooth and nail to be a part of Ivy's life. But as her ex Gus Malcolms made a huge confession, fans went wild on social media.

Rhona

Viewers are torn after Gus Malcolms admitted to Rhona Goskirk that he was ready to pay the price of his mistakes – and leave her with baby Ivy in Emmerdale.

The pair have been at loggerheads for months with Ivy taking centre stage in their discord. Following the discovery that Gus (portrayed by Alan McKenna) stole one of her frozen embryos to build a family with his late wife Lucy, Rhona (Zoe Henry) was determined to make him pay.

But she was knocked off track by the tragic birth of Ivy, which led to Lucy’s death and Rhona building an unexplainable bond with the new-born. As Gus struggled to cope with his grief over Lucy and fatherhood, Rhona and her mother Mary (Louise Jameson) volunteered to take care of Ivy until he was able to stand on his own two feet.

Rhona and Marlon

Rhona, in turn, grew increasingly attached to Ivy and, unable to let her go as Gus informed her they’d be moving to France, she took the baby away, ready to sail away to Canada.

The village vet was caught up by the authorities and charged with the kidnapping of Ivy, which then led her to unveil Gus’ his own crimes – identity theft and fraud.

Keen to avoid legal trouble and start a new life with Ivy, Gus assured Rhona he would allow her to be a prominent part of Ivy’s life if she agreed to throw the blame on his dead wife Lucy for the whole ordeal. However, when the time came to it, Gus showed his true colours.

Understandably, Rhona is having trouble trusting her devious ex-husband and this led her to refuse a new ultimatum from him, issued on tonight’s trip to Emmerdale.

As he faces his own verdict, following Rhona’s own lucky escape from justice for kidnap, Gus promised her parental rights over Ivy, while he gears up for prison.

Rhona brutally rejected him, unable to move past their differences but as Gus walked out of Smithy, her current husband Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) pointed out to her this could be her only chance to be in Ivy’s life without backlash.

ITV viewers have swarmed over to social media, immediately speculating that Rhona may jump at Gus’ deal with one of them writing: “Rhona’s gonna fight for the right to Ivy”, while another added: “My moneys on Rhona getting custody in time for Christmas.”

Meanwhile, some viewers were more concerned Rhona’s treatment of her stepdaughter April Windsor and her own son Leo, who have made it clear they’ve felt neglected since Rhona has focused on Ivy. “Rhona wants custody of Ivy yet she’s never with Leo or April great mother she is”, one fan fumed. Another echoed: “Rhona wants to look after the baby but she’s not even once recently looked after Leo or April.”

Rhona recently dodged prison after she was found not guilty for the kidnap of baby Ivy

Unfortunately for Rhona, and other fans who have begged for the storyline to end, there could be another setback in Gus’ plan as one viewers theorised: “I believe Rhona will face further setbacks. Gus will be sentenced & her baby will first be handed to foster parents.”

The conflict could find a long-awaited resolution in upcoming scenes as Rhona is due to reluctantly agree another audience with Gus, wondering if he is being genuine for once. In another twist, Gus reveals that he needs a victim statement from her to help him dodge a hefty sentence.

Later on, as Rhona and Marlon debate their options, the couple wonder if Gus can really be trusted. Will Rhona relent and give Gus what he wants? Could she finally be allowed to keep baby Ivy?
