Paula Lane stars in Emmerdale as Manpreet Sharma's friend Ella Forster - but fans may not know that the actress is married to a fellow soap star.

Former Coronation Street actress Paula Lane made her Emmerdale debut earlier this year but she is best known for playing Kylie Platt in Corrie from 2010 to 2016. Her character met a tragic end at the hands of Clayton Gibbs, Shona Ramsey’s son, who is now wedded to Kylie’s former husband David Platt, portrayed by Jack P Shepherd.
The episode featuring Kylie’s death remains one of the most heart-wrenching moments in Coronation Street history.
Viewers were deeply moved as David implored his wife to hang on until the ambulance arrived, only to be shattered when he realised she had d.i.e.d.
Paula shares two children, Arthur and Penny, with her husband Tom Shaw, another soap star who has featured in both Corrie and Emmerdale.
In 2017 and 2018, Tom played Kim Vaughan in Coronation Street. Kim was an old acquaintance of Fiz Stape’s, having grown up together in the same care home.

Paula Lane joined the cast of Emmerdale last year.
Kim sought out Fiz to reconnect, much to the annoyance of Fiz’s then-boyfriend Tyrone – until Tyrone discovered Kim was gay.
Tom has also taken on the role of village police officer Craig Bishop in Emmerdale, appearing intermittently across eight episodes between 2014 and 2019. His acting credits also include roles in Casualty, Hollyoaks, and Doctors.
Emmerdale fans believe they have pieced together the exit strategy for Paula’s character following news that she is departing from the soap.
It was unveiled that, at the tender age of 11, Ella committed the unthinkable act of killing her best friend, leading to her imprisonment. Upon release, the character, formerly known as Ruth, has been constantly on the move across the country.
Ella left the village in June, only to make a dramatic return a few months later, where she has since established a strong friendship with Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) and rekindled her relationship with Liam (Jonny McPherson).
Ella was left devastated last week when she discovered his infidelity with Chas (Lucy Pargeter).
According to Birmingham Live, it is believed that Paula’s final scenes will be broadcast in the spring of 2025.
Speculation amongst fans is rife over the exit storyline for Ella, with some viewers suggesting a dramatic revenge plot against Chas and Liam that might involve attempted m.u.r.d.e.r.
One fan theorised on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page: “I know this will be hugely controversial but I’d love it if she killed smug Chas (who steals men permanently and can’t keep getting away with it) and got away with it and lived happily ever after with Liam and they have a little girl.”
Echoing the sentiment, another speculated: “Ella is definitely going to try to get rid of Chas and/or Liam.”
A third person concurred, saying, “Yes I think she will try and kill Chas and get sent back to prison.”
