Soap stars Lawrence Robb and Emma Atkins have made their feelings known about their future on Emmerdale.

The pair are in the midst of a huge storyline at the moment after Charity stabbed Mack in the night as she continues to struggle with her mental health following the altercation she had with Harry at Christmas, which ended up in Harry’s death.

Charity has been finding it difficult to cope with all that’s going on, and as a result has been struggling with sleep deprivation. Mack was rushed to hospital on Thursday, but on Friday, viewers found out he would be ok.

The pair have now opened up about their future on the soap, as well as the future for their characters’ romance too. Lawrence, who plays Mack, told The Mirror and other press: “I hope [they don’t split up.] But as always it’s Emmerdale and drama happens. Working with Emma and the family that Charity and the Dingles have is great. I think it might build and cement their relationship further is what I think and hope for. I hope things will come to fruition but time will tell.”

Asked what she thought might happen for the pair, Emma – who plays Charity – is hopeful they could make it work in the future, despite her own struggles and what happened between them.

She said: “There’s a lot of complexities there now since they first met. I would hope that all of this wouldn’t be discarded. They have come such a long way and fallen in love with each other. We do a lovely scene, where Charity can’t take anymore and she just wants to run away from a bit and Mack goes hunting for her and finds her broken down in the exactly same spot where they met and there’s a moment where Mackenzie realises and it’s a bit like a love story.

“I just think it would have been a shame for them to have come all this way, built these bridges despite what’s happened with the stabbing, but it was so accidental – it’s not like there was any intention, but it’s up to Mack on whether he can live with that.”

We will see Charity continue to struggle. Asked what happens next, Emma explained: “Charity and Mackenzie go in very opposite directions. Charity is in total shock to begin with. She wants to be charged for the accidental stabbing, because she just feels she’s not in control of her own actions and she’s terrified. Charity bolts everyone out of her life and home.

“She even tells Mackenzie to take the kids as she just doesn’t feel responsible enough. She’s frightened with what she might do. So she isolates herself and ostracises herself from her kids, Mackenzie and the wider family.”
