Major breakthrough ‘confirmed’ for Stacey thanks to EastEnders legend

Stacey Slater’s (Lacey Turner) whole world fell apart when Martin Fowler (James Bye) died in February in EastEnders.
The beloved characters became trapped in the Queen Vic shortly after it exploded. As they battled through the rubble, it looked as though they were both going to make it out alive, and reunite.
It was very much a case of famous last words. Just as Martin and Stacey prepared to exit, a beam fell from the ceiling, trapping Martin seconds later.
Martin died as a result of crush syndrome. As the beam was lifted, toxins filled his body, ultimately resulting in his d.e.a.t.h.
And for the record, we’re still not over it.
Stacey’s been at a complete loss ever since she said goodbye to Martin. As a result, Jean (Gillian Wright) has stepped up to help with parenting Lily (Lillia Turner), Arthur and Hope.
It’s Lily who continues to cause trouble next week, as Jean struggles to discipline her. The teenager is not only attempting to come to terms with Martin’s d.e.a.t.h, but is also spending time with Avani (Aaliyah James) and smoking weed.
In the week, Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) goes in search of Stacey, but Jean and Harvey (Ross Boatman) admit that she really isn’t coping.
In a similar position to Stacey, Sonia heads to Number 31 and manages to have a chat with her. Eventually, they share a warm moment as they support each other in their time of need.
‘Sonia is so kind with Stacey and she’s not judgemental, she just listens and tries to offer some comfort and advice’, Lacey said.
‘I don’t think she’ll ever get over losing Martin, they were so close even when they weren’t together.
‘Stacey is going to have to learn to live with it because she’s got kids that need her, but it won’t be easy.’
