Natalie Cassidy admits it ‘wasn’t her choice’ how Sonia Fowler leaves EastEnders as bosses want exit to be ‘explosive’
Sonia will be trapped in the Queen Vic fire next week
ACTRESS Natalia Cassidy has confessed it was not her choice how character Sonia Fowler exits EastEnders in the coming weeks.
News that Natalie, 41, had opted to quit the BBC programme sent shockwaves through the soap world.

Speculation is mounting that Sonia could meet her maker in the tragic Queen Vic fire as part of next week’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
Now Natalie has even added fuel to the fire herself by admitting she did not get a say in what happened to Sonia and how she left Walford for good.
Whilst many stars often quit on the guarantee they won’t be k.i.l.l.e.d off, it looked like the same could not be said for Natalie.
Discussing her impending exit along with co-star Patsy Palmer, who plays Bianca Jackson, on her podcast Off The Telly, Natalie teased that what bosses had in store would be explosive.
Speaking to Patsy and podcast co-host Joanna Page, Natalie said: “It is never ever your choice – you never know how you are gonna go.
“You can make your own choice to go but its down to them [the producers] what they do.”
Patsy then chipped in to quip: “You don’t know what they might do with you!”
Bianca star Patsy then admitted that it was always a risk to opt to leave around the time of a huge anniversary sparking even more rumours that Sonia could meet an untimely d.e.a.t.h next week as she teased that bosses wanted her exit “to be explosive”.
Natalie then quipped: “Yeah, the timing is not great.
“Usually, when it is a big story, whether you are leaving or not, they give you a bit of notice [before getting the script] and you’ll have a chat with someone about it.”
The Sonia Fowler star also hit back at the idea of a soap job being a job for life admitting she has always lived by the motto that she is employed until her contract date and then she is going – in order to save herself from potential upset if show bosses were to axe her.
In scenes set to be screened next week, Sonia will go into labour during the terrible inferno which takes over Walford.
She will be trapped in the pub as she gives birth – leaving both her and baby in grave danger.
Sonia will be joined by two other Walford residents in the fire with their identities yet to be revealed.
