Sacked Emmerdale star reveals first pic and baby’s name after girlfriend gives birth
The sacked Emmerdale star, 30, shared the sweet news on social media and posted a series of photos of him and girlfriend Kirsty as they cradled their newborn son
An Emmerdale actor, 30, who was part of the soap’s cast from September 2018 until October 2019, has shared joyous news after welcoming a baby into his life. However, Asan N’Jie is known for being axed from the show following an altercation where he threatened to stab Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas at the 2019 TV Choice Awards.
Now embarking on the journey of fatherhood, Asan announced the birth of his son on social media. The elated new dad posted adorable pictures with his partner Kirsty and their newborn, whom they’ve named Leo-Mekailu.
Followers poured in with congratulations, including one fan’s message: “Huge congrats to you both!” Fellow Emmerdale actress Amy Walsh responded with delight, commenting: “Awww such gorgeous news babe.”
The pregnancy was only made public last month when Asan hinted at the exciting future arrival on Instagram, writing: “Can’t wait to meet Liccle baby boy.”
Asan’s stint as Ellis Chapman in Emmerdale had a controversial end when he was caught threatening Jamie Lomas with violence during the awards ceremony in 2019, purportedly saying, “Do you think you are a f***ing big man? I’m going to f***ing kill you,” followed by, “I’m going to f***ing knife you.”
The fight allegedly began when Asan made goading remarks at Kym Marsh’s ex husband.
Post-incident, Asan’s contract was terminated swiftly, and another actor stepped into the role of Ellis. It was reported that the conflict started with a “completely unprovoked” insult thrown at Jamie by Asan, who later expressed remorse over the incident, commenting: “My behaviour at the TV Choice Awards was completely unacceptable and very much out of character.
I sincerely apologise to everybody who has been affected, especially Jamie Lomas, the entire Emmerdale crew, our viewers, ITV, my family, and the organisers of the TV Choice Awards.”
Despite his sacking, at the time, Asan still appeared in scenes on Emmerdale that he had already filmed as his character, Ellis Chapman.
Soap bosses confirmed that Ellis will be staying on screen for another six weeks as it would be “virtually impossible” to remove his character from the forthcoming storylines without cancelling episodes.
In 2023, Asann starred alongside John Travolta in Christmas film The Shepard. The film is based on the novel from Frederick Forsyth which follows a fighter pilot who gets lost on their way home on Christmas eve.
Despite leaving Emmerdale on bad terms, Asan has appeared in BBC1’s Bloodlands opposite James Nesbitt and BBC2’s Industry since.
