JEAN Slater is the victim of a devastating scam in upcoming EastEnders scenes – and things could get even worse.
The character – played by Gillian Wright – has been part of the BBC soap since 2004.
In scenes yet to air, Jean is deceived by a scam while daughter Stacey (Lacey Turner) encourages her to report it to the police.
However, she is left feeling helpless after experiencing the reality of the situation.
Later, Jean is relieved when a solicitor tells her that they can get her money back.
Stacey is still concerned about her mother’s situation and asks Jack (Scott Maslen) to look into it.
It comes as Jean was hoodwinked in recent scenes on the BBC soap.
She was seen receiving a phone call from an investment company.
An intrigued Jean decided to speak to them about her current finances.
The fan favourite asked questions about how best to make the most of her money.
Jean soon comes to regret this once the truth of what happened unravels.
Earlier this year, the character nd her partner Harvey (Ross Boatman) reached crisis point in their relationship.
Jean was horrified when she learned Harvey was secretly giving money to Maya Houssain.
This stemmed from his guilt for son Aaron (Charlie Wernham) being the cause of a horrific terrorist attack.
As viewers had suspected beforehand, the incident left Maya’s husband severely injured.
To make matters worse, Harvey had been lying to Jean about where the money went to.
In turn, Jean was heartbroken by his lies when she learned the truth.
