Sonia’s fate confirmed as EastEnders m.u.r.d.e.r trial hit with shock twists
There are twists and turns ahead for Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) in EastEnders next week as she gets ready to accept her fate in her m.u.r.d.e.r trial.
As fans of the BBC soap know, Sonia was wrongly arrested last year for the m.u.r.d.e.r of fiancé Reiss Colwell’s (Jonny Freeman) wife.
Reiss has been hiding the fact it was actually him who smothered a comatose Debbie to d.e.a.t.h in her care home bed in a bid to solve his money woes.
After Sonia’s sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) uncovered his killer secret back in November, he had also been holding her hostage in a storage unit.
While guilty himself, he has been determined to free Sonia and after a plan to free her goes awry on Thursday, there are more shock developments in scenes to air next week.
Along withJack Branning (Scott Maslen) and Martin Fowler (James Bye), Reiss heads to the court, but it’s not long before things get out of hand when Reiss makes a scene that has huge consequences.
Wanting to do what’s best for her unborn child, a pregnant Sonia makes a life-altering decision…
Reiss later heads to the lockup to visit Bianca, and breaks down before revealing all about Sonia’s predicament.
An incredulous Bianca tries to convince Reiss to confess – but just as Reiss is about to leave, she makes one last ditch attempt to stop him.
After laying out her idea, Bianca appears to be making headway, but after a few wrong words, Reiss fumes and leaves Bianca trapped.
Back in the Square, Reiss is comforted by Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton), who offers him some words of advice that prompt him to make a huge decision.
At the court, Jack and Martin watch on as Sonia prepares to accept her fate – but Reiss arrives at the eleventh hour…
Is he about to confess his crimes?
Speaking about next week’s drama, Natalie Cassidy, who plays Sonia, says: ‘Sonia tries to fight the fight, but the cracks start to show. She’s in the court, she’s looking at the jury and she gets very overwhelmed by it all.
‘The whole prison experience has a profound impact on Sonia’s character, and you see her change. If you had been through an experience like that you would either harden or it would break you. Right now, Sonia is on the verge of make or break.’
EastEnders airs these scenes from Monday 20 January at 7.30pm on BBC One or stream first from 6am on iPlayer.
