Strictly’s Adam Thomas ‘investigated as restaurant closes down despite six-figure tax bill’
Former Emmerdale and Strictly Come Dancing star Adam Thomas used to run a restaurant in Manchester called The Spinn but the company went out of business in 2022
Former Emmerdale star Adam Thomas has been investigated in relation to his Manchester restaurant closing while owing a six-figure sum to the taxman.
The 36-year-old soap hunk – who was a contestant on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing last year – also counts himself as an entrepreneur, having dipped his toes into a number of businesses over the years. Among his off-screen projects was Manchester restaurant The Spinn – which opened in 2019 and faced almost immediate issues as the Covid-19 pandemic slammed the business soon after opening.
In 2022, Adam – along with his business partner Scott Graham – made the decision to shut down the restaurant. However, reports have suggested the company owed £100,000 in tax debts, and now a new report has suggested Adam is being investigated for over-owed money.
Information listed on Companies House reveals Adam resigned from his role as a director at the restaurant’s parent company, Gatley Bar & Grill Limited, in April 2022. Scott is still listed as an active director. However, the page relating to the company also states that accounts and a confirmation statement are overdue.

The Sun quotes a report looking into the company stating: “We have corresponded with the director, ex-director and creditors, carried out our initial SIP2 investigations and submitted our directors’ conduct report to the Department for Business and Trade within three months of our appointment.” The report adds: “We have submitted a report on the conduct of the director and former director of the Company to the Department for Business and Trade under the ODDA 1986. As this is a confidential report, we are unable to disclose the contents.” The Mirror has contacted Adam’s spokesperson for comment.
Adam discussed the closure of his business previously with the Manchester Evening News, saying: “Unfortunately, we have decided to close The Spinn. We did what we had to do with The Spinn, and we learnt so much building our first venture. more importantly, we had an absolute blast. But after 3 years, we felt the time was right for us to move on. We are now focusing on the next chapter of The Spinn … The Spinn off [bar] and Oh My Glaze [burger sauce company].”
Adam previously told the same outlet about the struggles the company faced. He said: “We were six months old when we went into lockdown we had to become a takeaway overnight, we didn’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves, we had to make something good from the situation and we’ve now created a real buzz with the burger menu.”
He added at the time: “It was a nightmare, we never saw it coming, no one did. It took forever to get the place up and running and then only open for six months. We could have shut down and gone on furlough but we wanted to use the space to create as much positivity as we could for the local area.”
