The Knight family turn on Gina (Francesca Henry) in EastEnders next week amid their desperation to hunt down Cindy Beale’s (Michelle Collins) attacker.

Would she really whack her own mum over the head with a snow shovel?

That’s what us armchair detectives are trying to work out, as we edge ever so slightly closer to the big reveal which will take place during the BBC soap’s 40th anniversary week next month.

Cindy herself has done a lot of finger pointing, initially blaming her partner Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) of the crime. He cheerily admitted that if he was responsible, he’d have finished the job!

She then went on to dob Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) into the police, saying that she remembered seeing her stood over her as she lay on the cold ground on Christmas Day.

There seemed to be some truth to the matter – as Lauren confessed to boyfriend Peter (Thomas Law) that she had turned over his mum’s body before fleeing the scene.

She had also taken a dose of illegal painkillers in the hours before, and her memory was hazy of the night. She started to wonder whether she was actually responsible.

Tensions continued to rise when she was discharged, and she faced a wave of hostility upon her entrance back to Albert Square.

This week, Ian caved following a heart to heart and suggested she move back into the family home as the Knight clan continue to make her feel uncomfortable.

In upcoming scenes, everyone is confused by his motives as Gina and sister Anna (Molly Rainford) convince their dad George (Colin Salmon) to have a word with Cindy himself.

Before long, Ian realises that he’s been duped into leaving her alone and that George has been trying to turn Cindy against him.

An argument soon escalates, and George heads to the barrel store to vent the rest of his anger. When wife Elaine (Harriet Thorpe) follows him, the two make a shocking discovery and they begin to blame one another.

As the week comes to a close, Anna is gobsmacked to see Gina having a secret chat with Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway) at The Arches.

What are they hiding?

Their conversations continue into next week, with Anna deeply suspicious of her sister’s actions.

The whole family are up in arms still, and Junior (Micah Balfour) is devastated when his estranged wife Monique cuts his contact with their son Xavier because he’s a suspect in the attempted murder.

With accusations flying around, he’s forced to expose a deeply shocking secret about Gina.

George leaps to her defence, whilst Ian takes it in his stride, telling Elaine that he’s going to report Gina to the police.

He meets up with Cindy and tells her that she should be the one who contacts the authorities – but she’s determined to go about it her way.

Is Cindy about to cover for her own daughter?
