Tyler Perry's Zatima & Sistas

Tyler Perry’s House of Payne | Does Ella Secretly Want Calvin & Miranda To Get Back Together?

I think this question has a pretty obvious answer. You could just look at the title and go, “Jeremy, it’s Miranda.” And yes, Ella definitely seems to have a soft spot for her.

But the real question I want to pose is this: Do you think Ella secretly wants Calvin to get back with Miranda?

Honestly, I think so. And it’s kind of weird. It goes back to the inconsistent writing, because I remember someone pointing out an episode where Ella sat down with both Miranda and Laura, trying to play peacemaker during one of their many clashes.

Let’s be real — across all five seasons of the reboot, Laura and Miranda have butted heads more than once. And what’s odd is that in the early seasons — season one and maybe even two — Ella was clearly Team Miranda.

Even before Calvin introduced Laura to the family, Miranda was already hovering around like an annoying neighbor. Think Steve Urkel or Kimmy Gibbler. She would show up unannounced, timing her pop-ins to when Calvin might be nearby.

Naturally, Calvin was frustrated. And I don’t blame him. He told her straight up: “Look, if it’s about our son, fine. But stop going to my mom and bugging my family all the time.”

But Ella wouldn’t back down. She’d get stern with Calvin and say things like, “Miranda is the mother of my grandchild.”

And Calvin was right to push back. He even said, “You don’t even care what I think, Ma,” and… honestly, he wasn’t wrong.

CJ went through the same thing with Ella. Remember when Janine was supposedly trying to get clean? And I say “supposedly” because she lied a few times. CJ did try to help her — maybe offered rehab or let her stay at the house — and she repaid him by stealing or quitting rehab. I forget all the details from the original series, but I do remember that CJ was pissed when Ella ignored how he felt and kept trying to help Janine anyway. It wasn’t until Janine stole from Ella that she finally snapped.

So yeah — Ella’s gonna do what Ella’s gonna do, whether it’s CJ or Calvin. Their feelings? Tossed aside.

And now, in the current storyline, Ella clearly doesn’t like Laura. She constantly flakes on plans to meet Laura’s parents, and her excuses usually involve either the help center or… Miranda.

Coincidence? I don’t think so.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ella is intentionally giving Laura the cold shoulder — making her feel like an outsider — just to pave the way for Miranda to slide back in. And that’s messed up on so many levels.

If given the chance, I think Ella would gladly welcome Miranda back into the family. Heck, it’s like she never stopped being part of it.

But here’s the thing — Calvin has tried to move on. Kind of. It’s hard to tell because, honestly, the writing is all over the place. One minute Miranda’s out of the picture, the next she and Calvin are “cool,” then suddenly he’s back to saying, “I love Miranda.” It’s confusing.

And then you’ve got moments where someone like Elaine tells Ella, “You should take the time to get to know Laura — without Miranda being involved.” That shouldn’t even need to be said! It should go without saying that Ella needs to connect with her son’s current partner.

But no, Ella’s still clinging to the past.

Bottom line: Ella is a trip. She really is.
